I had zero expectations, which is the best surprise when the book turns out to be so enjoyable. The story is a bit action/thriller/mystery, shifters and fated mates, with lots of love and very little angst. I was smiling thoroughout and immediately wanted to go buy more of Ms. Talbot’s books. Unfortunately there aren’t more in this series. Yet. I hope there will be more.

The love between Josiah and Ryan is hard fought and hard won. And all the sweeter for it. Both characters had serious challenges just to get through a day, and it was gripping to read about them. This is one of the first times I’ve read about a main character with ADHD, and how it affects their life - both good and bad. It’s quite relevant to my life, and gave me hope as I read it. Ms. Albert’s writing has really grown on me. This story is her best yet.

Ward and Nicholas complement each other nicely, have strong chemistry and both make mistakes, Ward especially. But Ward learns from his mistakes, realizes the inadvertent consequences of his hasty words. I like also how the resolution of Ward’s experiments was handled. The catharsis felt true to the story.

A sweet start to a new series by Ms. Charles. God, I love her writing and the vivid characters she creates. Different, not run-of-the-mil characters. A sweet start to a new series by Ms. Charles.
