Nessa and Blue run into each other when Blue orders motorcycles for his MC from Nessa's business. He's instantly attracted to Nessa and lets her know it. They enter a pretty hot and heavy physical relationship. Their physical relationship was definitely there and you could feel the chemistry. I wish we got a little more romance between the two to believe they were actually falling for each other, but overall this was fun. We get to know both Nessa and Blue and see them interact with their families. This was a fun and quick series that has a trope for everyone! ...more

When I started this book, I had some mixed feelings. I know some people absolutely love this book while others have told me they were disappointed. I love Katee Roberts, so I was excited to read this. To start with the romance, I was surprised by how sweet it was. Hades truly falls head over heels for Persephone and that was definitely my favorite part of this book. That, though, was really the only thing I loved about this book. The plot was so slow and not a whole lot actually happened. Persephone was supposed to be deathly afraid of Zeus, but he could never cross the river to get to her, so I didn't really feel that much tension and anticipation of Zeus being the bad guy or villain of the story. Things only really start to pick up around the last 60 pages when Persephone finally decides to put a plan into action. I did like the tension there and the angst with Hades where he was trying to decide between the well being of his people and his relationship with Persephone. I do wish we got a bit more substance to all of the side characters, especially Persephone's sisters. We got to meet them, but they weren't really there a whole lot and I felt like we were told a lot more about them than actually shown who they were as characters. While I loved the romance, the plot was just meh for me. I don't want to say this is a disappointment because I'm still rounding up to a four star since this is a romance and that truly was the best part of this book, but those high expectations did let me down from those saying this is an all-time favorite book of theirs....more

There was definitely a lot more dirty talk and steam than I was expecting, but I enjoyed this romance! Set and Kareema had a friends with benefits situation going on before they fell for each other. I do think the flashbacks felt a bit jumpy since this was so short, but other than that, I enjoyed the romance and how Set and Kareema met and instantly clicked! Even though it was short, there was a lot of past and depth to these characters and I enjoyed how they started opening up to one another! ...more

I loved the action and the mystery of Layla trying to discover who she really is and the true extent of what she can do. And talk about a yummy forbidden romance! I don't think I'd consider this book a love triangle since it's so obvious Layla and Roth belong together. I loved how he was a demon and showed Layla that he really wasn't all that bad. The story itself was fun and I'm dying to figure out what happens next in book two!! ...more

Before picking this book up, I definitely recommend you read the initial trilogy first. It's not necessary, but I understood Alek's character so much more than I would have if I didn't already know him and what he went through. Some things Alek does and people he's trusted made me really frustrated, but I had to remember what he had gone through and what was going through his mind. His blind trust of one specific character still makes me annoyed with him, but moving past that, Alek is a very bad man learning some of his humanity while trying to steal his kingdom back.
If you like romances about bad guys, this book is definitely for you. Alek is used to getting what he wants and he's determined to take back his power from his brother. I enjoyed how the romance kind of started out as a love triangle and definitely involves a forbidden aspect to it. Every character in this book had secrets, so you had no idea who you could trust or what people were going to do. I did think the internal monologue of Alek became a bit repetitive and would go on a little too long, but then the action and storyline would pick up again.
The romance in here is angsty, angry, and dangerous, which is everything I expect from a Monica James book. Of course, this ended on a cliffhanger since it's only book one, but we don't have to wait long for book two, which is releasing in September. ...more

PWhile I have been straying away from New Adult recently, I read the first book of this series, Cruel Prince, a few months ago and really enjoyed it. People kept on telling me that book two was even better, so I knew I had to pick it up and read Cole's book!
Going in, I knew that this was going to be heavy. Cole's twin brother had committed suicide when they were in middle school and that is still something that has weighed on Cole's conscious. What I didn't know, though, was that Sawyer is a curvy main character and a lot of this book deals with people's opinions on her weight, her insecurities of her weight, and her dealing with an eating disorder. I really loved that we had a plus-sized main character, I just wish that the conflict with Sawyer's weight and mental health over the last 200 pages was woven into the previous 400 pages of the story. It felt like the last 200 pages were just an extension of the romance, so it felt like the story was dragging a bit too much to get to page 600.
That, though, is my only complaint about this whole book. While Cole and Sawyer hated each other at the beginning of the book because of something Cole did, I think Cole did a sufficient amount of groveling and self-growth that it was actually believable why Sawyer liked him and gave into him. Also, I had NO IDEA this had a fake dating trope! I loved how Sawyer and Cole pretended to date and ended up falling for each other. They had some serious chemistry and I loved how they both helped each other through some really tough moments in their lives.
Overall, I loved this book. The last 200 pages were pretty hard to read because of the topics they cover, especially when we had a flashback that played out Cole's brother's suicide again (we had it in book one), but that made me love and care for these characters even more. They are just broken people trying to find their way in the world. I can't recommend this series enough and I cannot wait for book three! ...more
