Very difficult to decide if I liked the characters or not. I think my favorites were Sydney and Mitch. The seemed to be the lesser evils of the characters. Very well written, but really confusing at times as well, with jumping back and forth in time. I liked it though, and I'm happy I read it. ...more

I thought the format was interesting, yet it took some time for me to get any sort of feel for the characters. I think because of the format. I think I was at 200 pages before I was immersed in the story. That's way too long for a book to grab my attention. I was, however, really grabbed by the story after that point though, so that's why I still give it a high rating. ...more

This is only my second Sanderson book, but it was quite interesting to see how different his writing style was here compared to his Mistborn Trilogy. He adapted really well to the YA genre, and again added a really interesting magic system, if you can call it that. This book is set in a world where Epics have taken over the world. They're humans with super powers that almost makes them immortal. Their super powers however makes them all evil. We follow David who as a young boy witnesses her father being murdered by Steelheart - an Epic who's taken over Newcago. He discovered that day that Steelheart wasn't completely invincible, and that he could actually get hurt. So after this he makes it his mission to study all Epics around to try and find out their weaknesses. One day he joins a special force known as 'The Reckoners' who tries to fight these epics as best as they can, and he convinces them to go after 'Steelheart'. As I set highly enjoyed this book. It has some super interesting characters and plot lines, and there were a couple of plot twists that I hadn't seen coming. Had I read this before. I don't give it 5 stars, because I thought 'The Final Empire' was a bit better. I can't wait to explore more in this series though. ...more
