Plus there were hints of white saviorism that, according to other reviewers, became more prominent throughout the book, so double nope. I will get my alien sex fix somewhere else....more

The sex was better than in the first book, but there were consent issues that made me a little uncomfortable as well as the heroine expressing sadness at how she didn’t get to choose her mate: a thread that (as far as I read) wasn’t picked up.
Gonna make sure I stick with Ann Aguirre and Mass Effect fanfic for my alienfucking needs....more

Part of it was the author using the R slur (granted, in reference to bullies, but still), but I also just found myself not wanting to read.
Sidenote: having characters use a slur to show they’re bad people is not a good look. There are other ways to show that a character is bad without putting slurs in their mouths, because at the end of the day, it’s language that hurts the reader and often isn’t needed to show that characters are bad (for example, in this book, I knew the bullies from Simon’s last were bad because…they’re bullies; I didn’t need the slur to tell me that they’re shitty)....more
I wasn’t loving this anyways, but I figured I’d give it a go because the idea of a tattoo and book shop sounds cool.

Then the hero nonconsensually touched the heroine (lifted her shirt up to see her tattoo). She admonished him and he apologized, but as someone who is very particular about being touched, I couldn’t keep listening while knowing that this guy who had done this was supposed to be the hero (even though he apologized and expressed remorse).
I thought the author handled this well (the hero apologized and showed remorse, but the heroine’s anger at the incident was never invalidated), but it’s a thing that I personally can’t get past.
I did really appreciate that the muscular tattoo artist hero enjoyed reading, though. It gave him some more depth as a character and kept him from falling into the dumb (former) jock stereotype....more

I love me some monster sex, but I was hoping for some kind of plot thread to tie it all together for a book of this length.
Also as someone who is not big (heh) on size kink, this book seems to have a lot of it and I suspect that if I’d kept reading, I’d move from feeling meh about it to being straight up uncomfortable....more
