I think this one is one that goes straight on my wishlist so I can have my own physical copy one day.
If you ignore the cute ghosts and all that, you have sweet story about how different does not mean bad, and that you will find your own path if you dare to look.

Our nameless protagonist is on a journey, travelling to get four magical stones, and let me tell you, it feels very like Legend of Zelda or a pen and paper session. The pictures are beautiful, magical, suck you right in and I found my reading tempo increasing as the end was near because I was so thrilled and couldn't wait to see how it would all play out.
I've seen this is the first one of a series, and I'll keep an eye out for future installments, because that was some time spend very well.

T"Did you ever date another werewolf?" "Yes, cute girl. She could turn into a real bitch." "Clever." "And did you ever date a vampire?" "Yeah! He sucked."
This graphic novel is made up from scenes between a vampiress and a werewolf who fell in love. The pages illustrate the daily struggles they face, from dietary restrictions to the problem of how to prove your girlfriend is real when she won't show up on selfies.
Listen. This was fun, it raised my mood considerably, and it's the first arc where I think this needs to be constantly in my life, I eed to purchase it.
You will have fun. The main problem with this book is that it is short while you want more.

Wow. Review to follow. Please take a look at the trigger warnings as some aspects of this book can hit really close to home.
Hello friends, and welcome to another review. Yes, I spent far too much time watching videos in the last few days.
What we have: Yale boasts of hundreds of societies, and not all of those are secret. Of those that are, not every one is remarkable, but then you have a few, the very oldest, who dabble in magic. Alex is part of Lethe, the one that is tasked with making sure nobody of the magic-users steps out of bounds. There is a shitload of conventions and arrangements which have to be kept, to protect not only university people but also the townsfolk of New Haven.
Alex Stern is nobody you'd expect in an Ivy League college, or any college at all as she doesn't even have a highschool graduation to offer. But her ability to see ghosts makes her valuable to the posh people, so they arrange matters as good as they can to get her in - in exchange for work.
So we have awesome world-building, and the plot? I am glad you ask. There is a corpse and Alex doesn't believe the explanation offered to her, because she knows that nothing is as it seems. I really love plots that seem pretty straightforward at one glance.
To make matters short, it is what I wanted, what I expected, and I got it. I read the Grisha trilogy and Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, so I knew the characters would suffer. And to be honest, the plot is about rich, privileged jerks trying to get out as much as possible in as short a time as possible. I expected bad shit to happen.
There are two plot lines, one of the crime to solve, and the other of how she got here and why she has to work mostly alone on this case. Even the most minor side characters feel three dimensional. The prose is beautiful, and it's so thrilling this book was read basically by itself because I was unable to put it aside despite having concentration issues. This book won against my depression, and that really very rarely happens.
In the days since I've read this book I found myself wondering randomly how it will go on, and the waiting period will be tough. Five stars. Read if you can stomach the triggering topics, but if you do get triggered by certain topics in books, be sure to check beforehand....more

She has fun, and it gets even better as she gets the opportunity to earn real money.
This graphic novel shows both parts of Anda's life: How she gets into gaming, what else she does in her free-time and how her parents and friends react to that. On the other side is the time spent in-game, how she starts, becomes better, learns - and how issues she encounters online lead to research and spark new interests.
The drawings are simple, concentrate on the most important parts instead of drowning in details, colourful and I will look up if my library has more graphic novels by this artist.
I imagine I will recommend this one to loads of friends and other people. Read it. You won't regret it....more

This book is parted inCurrently, there is an exhibition in the British Library about the History of Magic, both in the Harry Potter world and in our. This book is parted in chapters that explore the roots of the subjects taught at Hogwarts: potions and alchemy, herbology, divination, charms, defense against the dark arts, astronomy and care of magical creatures. Each chapter is intruduced by an essay, explaining how real-world findings correlate with JKR's writings.
You've got artifacts from the British Library and other museums, quotes from the HP books, and notes from JKR, pictures she drew before publication, early drafts and such.
It's a comparison. "Look, in book three the trio takes Divination classes in which they stare into globes. This art of divination is relatively new, only started in the 19th century. Then they're reading tea leaves, and when looking into history, we see that..." - paraphrased. I love this book and wish that I could afford visiting the exhibition. Since I can't, I'll try to get some of the books mentioned in the appendix at university and do some further reading. History of magic is fun, I can't get enough of it....more

Since this book is tiny, the first question I asked myself upon seeing it is: Do I need this? I only bought it after earning some extra money besides my usual budget, and just finished it. To answer the question: Yes, I need it.
Have you seen the picture of a sign in the London subway system that asks passengers to report ghost sightings? I don't know if it's legit, but this is where this novella starts: Peter and Kumal drive around in circles, waiting for ghosts, and follow the clues they get to the bottom of the things. Also, we get to know what Abigail is up to, meet a new character that may stay, and get the best LotR innuendo yet.
Some parts feel very short and rushed, as if someone thought "Well, it's just a novella, let's keep it simple", but one the whole, this is such a satisfying read that it doesn't matter....more

Nancy is sent to a special school for special people. Or, more accurately, for people who left this world and came back and now yearn for a way to find a door leading home. Nancy likes it there, but then the murder happens.
We have a queer murder mystery in a fantasy setting in novella form. On one hand I feel ridiculous because it took me so long to pick this up, on the other hand I know that it might take time for things that are very me to reach me, but when they do, they are really impactful. See Discworld. Or Doctor Who.
The atmosphere in the school reminded me a lot of psychiatry. Hear me out. You know you're not mad/ crazy/ insert slur of your choice, but that you have a reasonable reaction to the things that happened to you and the people who act unreasonable are in fact your parents, who either don't believe you or are not able to admit how greatly this changed things and expect you to act according to some arbitrary expectations. That now you are under peers. Everyone has some things they need to work around, like maybe your self-preservation strategy consists of holding still like an apnoe diver, slow your heart rate and your breathing and everything, so you become nearly invisible. There are rules you have to follow, rules that are unique to you and your situation, and you might be able to find some other way to follow them to the point, but you have to learn that. Everyone does. Best do it in company.
A few words on the audiobooks: This one has music at the beginning, the intro, but no sound effects. Since I am oversharing anyway, I am hard of hearing and can either follow the sounds or the narration. But I have to admit that I don't like Seanan McGuire's voice. While I find it cool when authors read their own texts, I just didn't like it. There is nothing bad about the author's voice. I guess you have to give it a shot and see if you're more interested in audio or eye-reading in this case. Or find somebody who reads it to you and make me jealous.
In case you're somehow still wondering if I recommend this book: I started this series on the 16th and am in my third book two days later. I'd say that's a clear yes....more
