And this was it.
I have to say I was confusion while reading most of the book - and I was a little bored. But all that was probably me just thinking of Endgame instead of being submerged into the story...
I love Patrick Ness's writing style but this definitely wasn't my favourite book of his....more

I'm not even trying to be mean. I would come home from work, start reading, and... I'd be asleep in 5 minutes max. I think that is mostly thanks to the writing. And I was in a high fantasy mood while reading. (And I hate repetition (it got crazy)). I'll probably pick it up again, like I say with DNF books, but I won't be in a hurry to anyhow....more
Sure the plot of the book is intriguing. It's slow though. So very, very, slow. I DNF-ed it at the part where the characters are having 10+ page Q&A. (I'm not even joking) Seriously, couldn't the author just weave the answers to the questions throughout the book instead of having a full on discussion that lasts chapters? Needless to say, it put me into a massive reading slump. To be honest, I did only pick it up because of the cover (shh!) and that's the only regret I have (that I won't buy this beautiful cover for my shelf) Other than that..

The premise sounded intriguing but the reviews had me wary... I went into this with low expectations but it wasn't enough. The writing... oh my... definitely not my type! I couldn't concentrate with the writing being so irritating. I was in confusion (probably because of the writing) for almost the entire book. And then there's this dude called Joseph... man, what is his problem?!!
I wish... I wish this book had just stuck to what it promised on the back of the cover... I wanted assassin queens battling for the throne! I will say the plot twists were good. Sadly that's the only thing I liked. If I wasn't buddy reading this with El I probably would've DNF'ed this....more
