He could easily have asked his parents for clarification. The woman’s troubled childhood was easier to comprehend and its lasting effects believable. This story would be best read after the one about the couple in a Black Light Roulette novel though I hadn’t read that story and had no problem following this story. Some of the practices were very intense and I believe a warning that the inexperienced should not try them is warranted. That is the reason I kept to four stars. However I did enjoy it and would recommend it with the warning that there are scenes that might upset or trigger some people.

It is very DNF this story was very boring and has been done so much better by various other authors that perhaps this should never have been written. It is very loosely constructed compared to others this author has written so she can do better. None of the characters were very compelling…even with Ruthie who already had some nasty surprise plotted for the others but I wasn’t even interested enough to find out what. I do not recommend this book, don’t waste your time....more

IThis is an erotic fantasy written by a male author which as a female reader I find interesting as there aren’t that many male authors in this genre. It is a fairly typical Trent Evans fantasy with the older much more experienced and knowledgeable male seeing hidden needs and desires in a very much younger woman. She is barely legal to drink after all. She is the woman of his fantasy dreams, a tiny yet voluptuous Barbie doll type figure, slender arms and legs, tiny waist but very full breasts and hips, a near impossible figure in a real, woman . He must fit her fantasy as she is immediately attracted to him and willingly crosses a busy bar when he crocks his finger at her. The wrinkle in all this is her very devious uncle Chester who has plans of his own to ruin Rick and begs him to take the girl on as an intern. Of course all ends well with the happy couple off to live in White Valley, a place created in this author’s earliest writings. If you like Trent Evans you will enjoy this book....more

It isn’t really sci-fi other than Annie is a robot and she wants to become more and more human like. Doug just seems to want something that will provide with cleaning, cooking and sex. I enjoyed reading it but I am very unsure that the author succeeded in whatever point she was trying to make....more

I hope these attitudes are out-moded now and people are just valued for their inherent decency or lack thereof.Did Ace Gruver go on to marry Eileen and was she either a distant wife off in some non military location like his mother or did she turn out to be a demanding unhappy wife like her mother? Did Hana live to be an old maid dance teacher because no Japanese man could respect a girl sold into prostitution because her family was so poor? We will never know but Japan succeeded in rising from her defeated status to become an industrial powerhouse in the modern world and was not doomed to failure as the book suggests. ...more

I read it years ago when it first was published and thought the line *love means never having to say you are sorry* was idiotic. Love should mean that you want the best for the other and that may very well mean saying you are sorry. The author is male so is that a male attitude because my husband never said he was sorry ever. I found this to be worse than a day time soap opera, a real tear jerker if you are so inclined. I just found the story profoundly irritating. I worked in a hospital and saw people suffering from the loss of someone they dearly loved and they had a dignity this book doesn’t....more

I have tried this book twice, once before I had read of this author’s work and now because I had really enjoyed several of her books. I didn’t like Jane Eyre much when I read it decades ago and have never read Dracula as I don’t like supernatural books much at all. I thought because I like the author’s other books I might like this but I just can’t get into it at all. No character interests me at all....more

The author says a palace source, an insider, a spokes person but there are no names, no footnotes, no citations so is this unsubstantiated gossip or what? It was entertained written and easy to read but is it actually the truth? I am not going to spend money reading rumours. He needs to identify his sources before I pay money to read it. Right now it is like reading a gossip column in a tabloid newspaper and royalty is fair game because they hardly ever sue. He may be telling the truth but who is to know?...more

The author seems to have a penchant for vigilante justice which is odd in a former lawyer. However I loathe pedophiles and the devastation they cause in families but I still wouldn’t recommend out of hand justice. In this book as well there are two brothers, one a pedophile and the other seeming quite normal. Again there is planted evidence and someone acting behind the scenes but the reader does not know who that person might be. The story line is very compelling and certainly captures the reader if you like crime fiction. I hope the author’s other book are more like this and less unresolved than the first one I read....more

The premise is very interesting and it is basically about a group that has decided that the ends justify the means and that they get to decide who should die. Why they wanted Jesse in the group badffles me. She lies and connives and uses deceit to get ahead which definitely does not make her a person to trust with what must necessarily be a huge secret. At the first sign of trouble with her background she would betray everyone to save herself. They didn’t need her in the group to use her as a scapegoat. Also there are far too many people involved. Retail says that they have lawyers, judges, law enforcement, forensic scientists and obviously hit men involved. Too many people and secrets will out. It is impossible to control that many disparate people. Both Retta and Faith use the group to further their own private agendas and that ultimately leads to problems. I wondered how the author was going to end this and found the ending a bit flat. There is no real resolution. A deal is secretly made but basically the secret group goes on and Gabby has no real basis for believing in her and her family’s safety. I consider this an out and not a resolution and found it disappointing. Does the end justify the means? This author comes to no conclusion. I gave this three stars because it did keep me interested.
As an extra note twice characters are called by the wrong name. First Gabby is called Jessa and later Jessa is called Retta. Proof readers needed. Though the Retta mistake could work though it doesn’t make sense in the context....more

The young man and woman fall in love shortly before the start of WWI and they write to each other and other family and friends. Suddenly his letters stop and even though his name never appears on any casualty list her brother tells her that yes Issac is dead. The brother and her parents have no idea that she loves Issac. After all he is not of their class, a relationship would be very inappropriate and definitely frowned upon. Cordelia escapes to a friend and makes a life for herself with her friend. It does have a happy ending but none of the people are left unscathed by the war. I found the ending a little bit too good to be true but then this is a romance novel....more

I started out liking this story but all the brand name dropping began to irritate me. How does this advance the story. Almost every ethnic group and sexual identity is included. I found this rather everything but the kitchen sink. Of course since this is a large city all these groups are definitely present but with the brand names the groups became just another great inclusion for what point. The detective is cynical and conflicted as he can sympathize with the Kill the King’s exasperation at the way things are. The ending redeemed the book for me as it is a rather unexpected twist. I would give it 3 ½ stars if that were possible. Perhaps modern detective stories are just not for me....more
