It's painful to rate it so low because Jaypaw (jayfeather) is my favorite character in the whole franchise, but not much happens in the series with anyone but him (Jayfeather's powers are strengthening, while Lionpaw's are just awakening). Leagues better than anything published since Dawn of the Clans (minus maybe the Super Editions, I'm more behind with them at the time of writing this than the main series, I believe)....more

Reading some reviews across the internet, some reviewers stated that Mapleshade was so cracked she thought (view spoiler)[her dead kits were telling her to kill. Not quite. For her three dead kits, there were three cats Mapleshade held responsible; she felt justice was taking a life for a life, and each cat she killed symbolically silenced one of the kits voices in her head.
I disliked some of the wording at the very end because I felt it portrayed Mapleshade as a cat simply delighting in chaos, when we have just seen the very real pain she's been through and why she wants to cause trouble for the Clans. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Not really a review, but an examination of Onestar.
Onestar seems really insecure regarding his role as Clan leader. Why do I say this? Because Onestar used to be Firestar's friend. If they belonged to the same Clan, I don't doubt that Onestar would be running around with Fireheart/star and Graystripe, thick as thieves. Firestar saved Windclan in the forest by bringing them back when they were evicted. Firestar even announced Onestar as Tallstar's successor, which, first and foremost, shows him as unconfident in his new role. Thunderclan even fought for Onestar to retain his leadership against some of his own Clanmates. Now, I know their must always be four Clans, so I don't think that Windclan should become Thunderclan's puppet in return for those favors, but Onestar's desire to separate himself from all ties to Thunderclan is extreme; it's a poor strategy when you share borders (and you're most likely to seek emergency help from the Clan closest to you).
Onestar even speaks out against Clans relying on each other and condemns the other Clans for asking for help, which is ironic considering all the help Thunderclan gave his Clan; his attempt to publicly separate himself from Thunderclan comes across not as self-reliant, but rather, a feeble attempt to assert himself as a strong Clan leader when, in fact, he and his Clan have yet to prove themselves as a force to be reckoned with in their new home, but that doesn't stop Onestar from proclaiming, "I'm tough! No, Really!"
Overall, I don't really think Onestar is cut out to be leader. He doesn't have the mental strength. Starclan gave him his nine lives, but they gave them to Tigerstar too...
An aside: Forgot to mention what a bad mother I think Leafpool is. She's kinder to Cinderpaw (Cinderpelt) than to her own kit, Jaypaw. I admit Jaypaw is difficult, but being nasty back isn't going to help. She's not Yellowfang, whose whole demeanor was cranky; Leafpool can be really nice, then really mean. And she keeps sending Jaypaw mixed signals about his gift of walking in dreams; "don't use it!! ....Ok, use it now." She doesn't show any affection, even associated with him being her "sister's kits." (hide spoiler)]...more

The writing and storyline is an improvment on The New Prophecy, it's predecessor (enjoyable, but not the best installment in the Warriors saga, in my opinion). I forgot how unlikable Jaypaw could be in the begining; and while he's still his grumpy self by the end, he's grown on me and is one of my absolute favorites.
I don't know what it's like to be blind like Jaypaw, and I could never imagine it; but I do have fibromyalgia, a pain disorder, and I know what it's like to be held back, and think life isn't fair, and wonder what I did to deserve such a fate.
Jaypaw also reminds me of my cat, Klaus, who was alive the first time I read this series. He was blind, but he could smell food a mile away!...more

Such a touching story, and very eventful. Cloudpaw is kidnapped by Twolegs after accepting their food, a fire rages through the forrest, Riverclan gives Thunderclan shelter, Yellowfang endures a tragic end, Bluestar loses all faith in Starclan and refuses to go to a Gathering, and Tigerclaw becomes Shadowclan's leader, which makes me wonder just what kind of Starclan Warriors give him his lives. This first Warriors series will always be my favorite, though I do love the Super Editions as well since they mostly cover characters from this series; but Power of Three and Omen of the Stars are pretty great too. And Dawn of the Clans. But yeah! Anyway. My favorite!! :)...more

I first started the Warriors series back in the Fall of 2010, when I had some downtime between college classes; I was getting bored with finishing my homework early, and just sitting around, waiting for the next class to start. Gotta take what’s available, and sometimes those classes can have sizable gaps. So, around that time, I got a recommendation from a (now former) friend who is/was as obsessed with cats as I am, and I bought the series right away. It captured me immediately. I’ve always been a reader, but I had kind of slowed down just prior to reading this series, only reading a book a month or so. Not only did this series (along with its spin-offs) rejuvenate my love for books, but it helped me through a rough patch of being in constant pain, misdiagnosed for 2 years culminating in a near death ER visit and two weeks in the hospital, and surgery. But now, the book. It starts with a house cat (a “kittypet”), Rusty who has dreams of a life beyond the mundane. After a hard decision, he leaves his life of comfort and join one of the four wild cat Clans living in the forest at the edge of the forest near his house. It’s a tough life from the start, not only having to hunt food for himself and his clan, but seemingly proving his loyalty to everyone but his Clan leader and best friend.
When Firepaw (Rusty, Firepaw being his Clan apprentice name) discovers a traitor in their midst, a cat who is revered for his fighting skills and generally held in high esteem among his Clanmates, he finds it left to him to save the life of the cat who would be his evil Clanmate’s scapegoat, all the while proving himself to his Clan, hunting, fighting off the hostile Shadowclan, proving another cat’s innocence; oh and rescuing a few kits.
It’s a wonderful, exciting story with lots of emotion. It’s stayed with me since I read it, and opened the door to animal literature for me. It will always hold a special little place in my heart....more

Essentially, this is a story about suspicious loyalties: Graystripe is in love with a RiverClan she-cat, and may I originally read this book in 2011.
Essentially, this is a story about suspicious loyalties: Graystripe is in love with a RiverClan she-cat, and may well bring the wrath of both Clans down upon him; not least of all, he may well sacrifice his best friend in the process. RiverClan and ShadowClan seem to have formed a secret alliance, and if so, what does it mean for the other two Clans?
This is Graystripe’s story; specifically Graystripe and Silverstream’s story. It’s sweet on one hand, and annoying on the other; Sweet because love knows no bounds, and annoying when RiverClan identifies a ThunderClan scent on their territory, but Graystripe still (potentially) puts his Clan, and himself, in danger by going back to visit Silverstream.
I can actually relate to Fireheart in this one; I know what it’s like to see someone I care about in a relationship in a less than desirable relationship and worry about their well-being. That sounds like a really deep meaning being assigned to a children’s book, but it does deal with a variety of issues through it’s characters, and I think we can all relate to this aspect at some point. ...more
