The first book in this series was meh, this one I actually really, really enjoyed. The plot is getting interesting and I'm really digging where the characters are going. I'm actually excited to get to book three. ...more

So many of these stories were so well done, and it reminded me that I need to get on the Courtney Summers train, like, yesterday . It was an interesting concept and I really enjoyed learning about each of these people, however .
I think the concept kind of worked against this one. It is a cool concept, to have the story of a school shooting be told by all these perspectives, kind of throughout time, and I did like learning about each person and their life, but--
The fact that everything was in first person and the fact that everything jumped around so much that it made it almost impossible for me to remember who was who, apart from like, Kirby himself. And I guess Billie? It was an interesting one, though, and I'm glad I read it. ...more

Yeah, I'm gonna say that this one is deserving of the massive amounts of hype it has generated since coming out. This is the second book this year to Yeah, I'm gonna say that this one is deserving of the massive amounts of hype it has generated since coming out. This is the second book this year to make me cry, and while the first one had me teary-eyed with a few tears artfully slipping down my cheeks, this one had me full-on bawling. It emptied out my chest. This is one of the best books I've read this year, and I'm in a good streak.
The thing was--I don't even know. I loved the characters, and their relationships with each other made my heart break. I loved the conflicting stories that came from it being a pseudo-oral history of a fake band. To be honest, those kind of made for most of the comic relief! Which then tore my heart out!
If you're leery because of the hype, don't be.
I need every book this woman has ever written. ...more

Yeah, but also I loved it so much that I couldn't really give a shit about that, and mostly, I adored it, and even though objectively I can say that the pacing was a little off, in my heart and soul I know that doesn't matter, because this book was hilarious, well-written, and poignant in all of the right ways, and I adored the hell out of it. ...more

It is actually embarrassing to say how long this took me to get to, considering my boyfriend picked it up on a whim while I was taking books out of the book wall, read it out loud to me, and we were done in about four minutes.
I believe this came out right at the start of the big 'vulgar self-help' books that were popular a few years back, so it's got a leg up on those. It's fine. I do enjoy self-help books, this one is more of a motivational dialogue than anything, so there's not that much to it. It's fine. ...more
