This was just perfection. I adored the premise and the format it was written in was phenomenal. I LOVED that we got into Lincoln's head and only knew Beth and Jennifer in the same way Lincoln did.
Beth is the sort of friend I want to have. I want to hang out and get drunk and probably arrested with her. She's smart as hell, quick with a comeback and hilarious.
Lincoln is sweet and every descriptive word that Beth and Jennifer use for him is correct. He's heartbroken at first, but it's clear that he knows how to bring the swoon.
This book has definitely become one of my go to books to read when I'm in a slump. I will be pimping it out and rereading it forever....more
Well. This definitely didn't go the way I was expecting it to. I have a lot of fond memories of this series and being so invested in May 2020: 3 stars
Well. This definitely didn't go the way I was expecting it to. I have a lot of fond memories of this series and being so invested in these characters. This time around...not so much.
Katy is a decent MC and she's got some potential. I enjoyed her snark and how she would snap back at Daemon and sort of try to stand up for herself. Daemon is a straight up jerk for most of the story and we don't actually get any idea of what he wants until the very end. Dee was a delight and I could have done with more of her and Katy together.
Plot wise, it was rough going for the first half of the story. Katy's entire inner monologue is all about how hot Daemon is and that got really old, really quickly. Their insane hot and cold was a bit annoying and it seemed like the action part didn't actually progress anything. And while I realize that a lot of things weren't answered due to it being a series, the ending left a lot to be desired.
Overall, I'm seriously thinking about skimming the next book just to see if any of it will hold up for me, but I also don't know how much ambition I have.
FYI: scenes of forceful and unwanted kissing with a boy who doesn't stop when the girl says no. It doesn't go farther than that, but there are several mentions in the book about him being a one step away from a date rapist.

August 2012: 5 stars
I just don't have words for this book. It came highly recommended and didn't disappoint.
Fantastic banter, a ridiculously hot boy and secret chapters at the end from his POV all made for an excellent read.
I can't wait to get the second book in my hands....more

I loved this story so much more this time around. Elisa started out really sheltered and naive and by the end of the book, she's a formidable queen. As always, I needed about 10000 more pages of Hector, especially when he's with Elisa.
The plot was a bit of a slow burn, but it was a satisfying read and definitely held up to what I remembered in my head.

April 2013: Rating: 4 stars
A little slow in the beginning, but it hooked me right away. I really enjoyed the growth Elisa showed through the book.
Yes, I'm changing my rating to 3 stars, even though it should maybe be less. I have fallen out of love with this series 2018: 3 stars and a DNF at 49%
Yes, I'm changing my rating to 3 stars, even though it should maybe be less. I have fallen out of love with this series -- I DNF'd EoS -- and I was trying to read this as a stand alone of sorts. Sadly, it didn't work.
I found Celaena to be bratty and! always! talking! with! exclamation! points! Dorian and Chaol were not as charming as I remembered. I thought about continuing just to see if I would get captivated by it like I was the first time, but then realized that I shouldn't waste my time.
Bottom line: I just didn't care about this story or these characters. I could go on and get into details, but I sort of don't want to waste the time and effort.
I have removed it from my all of the stars, all of the swoons, I want to hang out with them, and will forever reread shelves because none of those are true right now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
June 2012: 5 stars + my all of the stars shelf
I am so in love with this book. It was sort of forced on me by a friend and I wasn't too sure that I'd like it, but it was amazing. It's the sort of story that had me sneaking off to the back room at work to read a page or two and then when I got to the last 50 or so pages, I was trying to slow down to make it last.
Celaena is a kick ass heroine. She's smart and fierce and I want to hang out with her. Not only for her to teach me how to beat people up, but she's witty and has such a great sense of humor. I was rooting for her from the very beginning.
Did I mention there are TWO swoony boys to choose from? They couldn't possibly be more opposite, but they are both delightful in their own way and with each page, I couldn't decide who I adored more. The interactions that Celaena has with each of them is just perfection. We get to see different facets of her in her dealings with the boys.
Oh. And there's magic. And evil stuff. And fighting. And mean boys who take my girl for granted.
I'm already debating whether or not I want to just start this book over again right now. I can't wait for the hardcover and e-book to come out because I want ALL OF THE VERSIONS. That's how much I loved it.
