Minare endSamura surely surprised me with Wave, Listen to Me! Interestingly so the manga is about radio shows (talk radio), which is very refreshing. Minare ends up blabbing her problems with her boyfriend to a guy when she's drunk and that ends up on radio show. She works in a curry restaurant and barges in the station only to be offered a talk show thanks to her peculiar voice and style. Of course this thing isn't all that simple and the setting is quite realistic albeit Minare is truly a character... The first first volume sets the thing and shows us how Minare struggles with her work and love life, gets fired from the restaurant and such. It's like a row of bad outcomes that somehow fit the situation and well, she is slightly immature and annoying too. For me the manga is a bit too much all over the place, but it can get better.
The art looks awesome and it's precise Samura surely. The characters have persona looks-wise and the panels are multifaceted and dimensional. The series looks great, but still lacks something. Not really the plot though, but how it's constructed here and perhaps this needs some toning down. Still, I'm very happy about the topic and how the female protagonist actually has balls. Such a different kind of manga!...more
Usually I'm not a fan of maid manga, but My Maid, Miss Kishi is somewhat different. Kiichiro Hayase is an eligible man with wealth and he's single tooUsually I'm not a fan of maid manga, but My Maid, Miss Kishi is somewhat different. Kiichiro Hayase is an eligible man with wealth and he's single too, but the guy is actually a walking glitch himself. Everything he touches basically explodes and his way of thinking is weird too. He has maids to help him, but Miss Kishi is surely the best. The woman can do anything and doesn't even move a face muscle while doing it. Because of this Kiichiro doesn't know if Kishi is happy and enjoys work, since he can't read her at all. No one can. In a sense this is great and how Kishi doesn't give in to Kiichiro's affection and whatnot. She lives a humble and small life, which is great. The problem is that this is the single joke we have and building a story around it is hard. This first volume keeps using the same elements all over again, which gets tiring fast.
The art looks humor manga like and works that way without being too detailed or anything. The comedy element is already in the art, so it gives extra boost to the story. I hope Kashiwagi broadens the story, since this is six books long, so it kind of needs more to it to stay interesting. Otherwise this is an OK series for those who like the setting....more

Our main character is a girl that plays this spider video game and Her Majesty's Swarm is an isekai series, but actually quite refreshing and brutal. Our main character is a girl that plays this spider video game and somehow ends up inside it. Well, it's not sure she's actually there and now she tries to understand how the world works and how she became the queen of the spider forces, Arachnea. The series is quite violent and dark, somehow even humorously twisted. Our queen is a handy girl with lots of talent and she actually ponders a lot. So, not your typical female heroine (if you can call her a heroine that is). I really enjoyed the fact that this is about spiders though and they look quite realistic too. The series reminds me of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, since the structure and feeling are very similar if you don't count the violence.
The art looks very nice and quite realistic. The characters have facial expressions and the view angles are interesting too. The flow of the story works, but somehow I kind of expected more, since the genre is so used. The plot has just started and it all depends where it's going whether this will be a hit or not. The potential is there though....more

Our main character is Nozomi Koiwa, who's a high schooler. At the beginning of the story she wakes up and has shrunk to the size of a soda can and cannot remember basically anything except her name. She somehow ends up living with this alcohol loving 22-year-old woman, who's a neet. Nozomi makes Yume believe she's just her imagination and tries to help the woman out to try to organize her life. But, it seems Nozomi isn't the only one having shrunk... Well, the setting is interesting, but the series is only three books long, so it may not be enough. The pace is really fast and Nozomi doesn't really try to solve her situation enough to make this more interesting. It's just about Yume getting drunk and not understanding why she can see the little school girl.
The art looks nice, a bit sexy at times, which feels weird considering the topic. I'm much more interested in the reasons than in Yume's situation though. The shrine seems to be the key to everything. Still, it's great that this is a shorter series, since we need more of those. The topic is quirky too in a good way....more

The mangI was positively surprised with The Dawn of the Witch, although the ecchi parts were unnecessary in every way and ate the joy out of reading. The manga actually feels like seinen and is very different because of it. The Church and the Witches were fighting wars for how long until they've finally made peace. Sayb is flunking magic school and doesn't have any memories before he enrolled. There he meets other students and the new professor and mostly we get into the world and political setting. I really liked the fact that the characters are different and not cliched. They actually talk, analyze and are somewhat boring and that's perfect. This is realistic in a weird way. So, not your typical shounen. The volume goes through many things and hardly anything at all at the same time and sets your mind to think you know what happens. I do hope the mangaka pulls the rug under us, since that would be awesome.
The art looks great and fits with the world and setting. It's precise and works well. The ecchiness rubs me the wrong way, since there's no point and need for it. There's a great possibility that this series will be different and I hope it will be and less curvy busty women, we don't need those. The characters are great as themselves....more

The reason is that I find ecchi elements unnecessary in fantasy series and we get boobs everywhere here. Gladly our main character doesn't care about them, but then again he's a kid...and obsessed with magic. Prince Lloyd actually remembers his puny from before he was reincarnated and now he wants to correct his mistakes and become the greatest sorcerer. He's only ten and already very good, but no one seems to notice this around him. This was a good choice and I did like the demon Grim too. It's hard to say where this story is going though, but I do hope it's refreshing and stays different, since there are so many series like this out there right now with too long titles.
The art looks nice and childish even, which works well. The movements work well and all in all this looks very lively and the prince looks actually like a kid, which is super great. This is even fun at times, so a better series like this with potential!...more

Belamus was a powerful sage and used his power to reincarnate when his body was near its end. He's now a newborn baby left in the forest for not having enough power at birth. A goblin tribe adopts him and we get to see the village and his life there until he's five years old. Of course he has his memories from his previous life and now finally he can use magic once again. Belamus starts to build the village into a city and teaches others to help and use magic too. The first part is mostly just about this, developing everything. In a way the manga feels like a Lego building contest instead of a story and we don't really get to know the characters enough. Also, Belamus is five and no one seems to wonder enough why he can do what he does.
The art looks something that works with the story and keeps it entertaining and shows us the places too. It isn't anything miraculous, but steady and easy to approach. This is a fast read surely, but cannot really offer anything new yet and I hope hope there will be something to set this apart from all the similar series. A steady adventure this is still....more

Kagari Tojyo is a beautiful girl, but what makes her special is her honey blood that vampires want like no tomorrow. Thus she has a bodyguard called Ryotaro, who is also a vampire and there's this perverted side to him, but nothing too bad. Obviously he's in love with her and she with him, but these two idiots are too oblivious to it. At first I though that this is once again your basic vampire romance, but the idiotic way of these two saves the day. The main couple is actually quite similar and their relationship is balanced which I like. Kagari isn't just a princess in need of saving. This first part just gets the wheels spinning and it seems there's plotting and whatnot in the air. I do like that the plot isn't clear yet and that this can go anywhere in a sense.
The art is OK, nothing amazing, but not bad either. There's lots of humor and humor faces, which can be a turnoff, but I liked that they made this series a goofball. I hope this short series keeps up the weirdness and doesn't fall into the basic stuff category. So, if you like spiced up characters, romance, vampires and idiotism, then this is for you!...more

Our main character is Sawa, who's just broken up with her cheating boyfriend Sakura's Dedication is your basic shoujo, but still quite nice actually! Our main character is Sawa, who's just broken up with her cheating boyfriend and is now mourning. Sakura, the nerd boy, sees this as an opportunity to confess and get the girl to date him. At fist it's not going anywhere, but soon our girl warms up to the boy. Sakura keeps telling her how he feels and makes our heroine shy and embarrassed all the time. A school romance surely and slice of life too. Once again we get to the dating part too soon though, which is a shame. I would want to see more of Sakura trying to win Sawa's heart and their relationship growing realistically instead of Sawa's insta love. This bothered me a lot, since the chase is better than the catch.
The art looks cute and delicate, very romantic even. Everything happens mostly during school hours, but it works to a point. In a sense I wish that we'd get past this shyness and embarrassment, since they go nowhere story-wise. The series needs more plot elements, but it's cute still. If you like your romance light and fluffy, then this is for you....more

Yoru was sent to a group home after her mom abused her and there she met Tenjaku, who's father abused him. They are high schoolers already and after a year they need to leave the system and move on their own. Yoru has feelings for Tenjaku, but at least now the boy seems to want freedom more than anything else. Yoru is annoying and it's painful to see how she wants to tie Tenjaku to herself. Tenjaku then is too chivalrous trying to save everyone and that too is annoying. The foster care system is the most interesting part, since I don't know enough about that in Japan. My husband has worked in one here in Finland so the comparison gives extra spice.
The art looks nice, light and fluffy. This is a great contradiction when you think bout the topic and it works amazingly well. Aruga takes heavy topics and creates something human from them. I do hope this will become something more than just a romance eventually. I actually wish there wouldn't be any romance at all or that Tenjaku wouldn't feel the same and Yoru would have to accept that and move on. I can wish, right? ...more

Reo Mikage comes from a rich family, but wants something for himself and soccer fills that void in him - he wants to win at the World Cup and be the best soccer player out there. He cannot do that on his own and he wants Seishiro Nagi to help him realize that dream, but the guy is a slacker. But, he has amazing reflexes and great potential too and the two participate in the competition to become the best in Japan. Well, the setting is surely the same formula that's in the original series, but it worked there too. I hope the series offers something more and not just reuse stuff and there's lots of potential and personal growth (I see the hints). I love sports series and I hope there's going to be something amazing for us!
The art looks extremely nice and lively. The movements look cool and you can see them, which is especially nice and hard to do well. I don't know how long this series will be, but I hope it gives us more info about the system and creates paths to the original series. That would be amazing. ...more

I do like this "heroes above all" view that is somewhat twisted, well, a lot really. The story is set in a world where there are demons and humans are on the losing end. The Great Demon Lord is all too powerful, heroes die and the mages summon help. Other humans get summoned from different realms combining them and it seems humanity is losing everywhere. All the groups of people have different enemies, but it seems they can switch those and perhaps save what is left of humans. The setting is great, although I do hope it's not just fights after fights. I wish there will be something more in the series, so it wouldn't just be a copy. But! You never know.
The art looks nice and works well with the story line. The different enemies look great and the view angels vary creating this nice ongoing movement. The characters still need more persona though, and I hope they will gain it so that we feel something for them. An interesting start surely and you can never have too many scifi series, haha....more

Freya is a wealthy heiress, but because of bad decisions, she lost her place and had to run. She buys this guy Neneo, who's a murderer of an entire village. These two travel together and quite fast fall in love. They also meet Freya's former fiance and Neneo starts to work for him. Freya and Neneo's characters are actually very interesting. Freya seeks Neneo's warmth constantly, feels jealous and they have sex, although we don't get to see that (well, you can interpret it the way you want). They are very adult-like, full of realistic emotions and flaws as people too. The insta love is not my thing, but in this world it works out quite well.
The story is very slow and it's hard to say where this is actually going. The traumas are interesting and all in all I hope this will be as dark and somewhat off-putting as it's now. The manga is distant and hollow, which is something else. It's like there's more darkness lurking only to make this a bigger tragedy this already is. So, a different kind of manga surely. ...more
