it was ok

Was this my most anticipated read of the year? Heck yes.
Was I disappointed? Extremely.

Before I start this review I just want to make it clear I love this series and characters so much. I still recommend the first three books in the series. They are so worth investing your time in. This one? Not so much.

It started off really well. The four brothers together, talking and bonding. I was really entertained for the first 60-70 pages and then it went downhill. The pacing is slow.

Firstly let me start by saying Nash and Xander are really vital and core members of this series and the lack of them makes an immense impact. Nash and Xander both provide a sense of unity, balance, family and peace into Grayson and Jameson's chaos. I missed the two so much in this one. It was a terrible mistake on JLB's part to kick the two out of the book.

Secondly, the dynamic between Grayson, Avery and Jameson completely fell. The three act like they no longer know each other. There are so few scenes of the three together it's just strange. Grayson and Jameson deserved more scenes together. They are no longer rivals stuck in a love triangle.

Coming to the "love aspect". Those who haven't read the series yet, might want to skip past these few sentences. Jameson and Avery were so amazing in the last book together. They had such good growth and Jameson was shining. Here, they had zero chemistry. Sure, they had like two good scenes together but the rest of the book they act like they are strangers? It is so weird. Grayson and Avery still have better chemistry. It hurts to see my man is still hung up on her.

There clearly lies more in store for Grayson. His story is not complete and this was the sole reason for this book. But while doing so, am not sure what JLB was trying to achieve. He is broken. Hung up over so many girls who betrayed him so many times. He stood up to Eve towards the end and opened up to his brothers but his character needs more. There was no healing for him. Hopefully that gets rectified in the next book.

A major problem was the fact that JLB wrote the story in a very confusing manner. We get Grayson and Jameson's POV. Both have missions of their own. Jameson's mission in particular served no major purpose. His character deserves better than that. Apart from two different missions, we get flashbacks in between which just makes things worse. The back and forth along with different pov started to make things unnecessarily complicated.

No doubt JLB is a talented writer but she made a lot of mistakes in this. The way this book has not much to offer and is written in such a boring manner makes it comes across as written purely for the purpose of money grab. This book easily could have been a novella, 200 pages short but it dragged on in a miserable way. It surely reads like a novella but is a proper book.

The only reason I will read the next book is for the fact am not ready to give up on Grayson yet.

Yes! JLB has been sabotaging his character for no reason and it sucks. Thankfully my next read was enjoyable <3

Celeste Hawthorne I saw the 2 stars and I instantly knew that you're an AveryGrayson shipper. Idk how will you guys understand that the love triangle is over.

message 203: by Rowida (new)

Rowida I'm shocked tbh bc I was so excited for this one!! And most people say it's boring, but I definitely hope the next one is better

If you read the review, I pointed out my reasons for rating it 2 and am pretty sure you're going to find some that don't mention Avery Grayson? In fact, I pointed out Jameson deserves a better arc too... So idk what's the purpose of this half assessed comment you left 😅

Same!! It is boring, it should have been a novella tbh. Hopefully

Muntaha oh god, no. I was so excited to read this book (for my love, Grayson, ofc) but now i'm not so sure. I don't want to ruin the fun I had in previous books if this book doesn't provide me with what I need. I'm genuinely confused man wth.

I would suggest lowering your expectations, might end up liking it that way. Imo there was no definite plot here but some seem to be enjoying it regardless.

(Tbh I really don’t tho you don’t seem the type to let randos negative comments affect you 🫶🏻!) only for my comment to make sense lmfao 😅 the one saying they think the reason you only rated it 2 stars is “pretty obvious” & that you just need to “let it go”? Oml that pissed me off SOOOO MUCH! It’s like they didn’t read allll of the points you made in your review, and they’re clearly a troll 😑. I’m sorry you have to deal w the occasional hater/ harasser/ etc. ! You don’t deserve it; I love that you aren’t afraid to express your opinion, even if it may be on the controversial side! & you’re one of the KINDEST people I’ve interacted w on gr! Aww girl you're so sweet, thanks so much. Reading your comment made my day🥺🥺🩷🩵 Tbh I didn't see that comment, I thought you were referring to one of old negative comments on this review 🙈😂 That person deleted it too. I don't let it bother me at all, besides its kinda rare to get comments like these, usually people are so respectful in stating their opinions on here. True, sometimes they just pick 1 sentence from the whole review and then try argue 😂🙈 Yeah I do try not to sound rude when I have some controversial side. Thanks for letting me know tho, it's always nice to see that their are friends like you on here whom we can count on to have our backs 🩷🩷

Yeah Avery was the central character in it. Now it seems like its going to be Grayson, so they should have stuck with one pov.

You’re so welcome! & awwwww I’m so glad that I could make your day, truly, that makes me so, so happy!🥹🩵🩵 I would’ve rather not have pointed out the negative, but I suppose you would’ve seen it, anyway, had I not called them out ! I don’t understand people like that, I really don’t. *sighs* but you’re right, lovely—I most definitely have your back! At least for the reviews that I see, because you roll them out like it’s nobodies business 😅😂🤣. You are SO inspiring girl! Don’t ever doubt yourself… and you ARE beyond respectful in how you document your feelings about whatever you’ve read, from everything I’ve seen, there’s no way I could say otherwise! I’m glad you Shake It Off (insert t swift lyrics here 😆), though, bc I know those kinds of things can get to be upsetting, but ultimately, they REALLY don’t matter. I’d value a positive comment from you, someone whose opinion matters to me, 1000x over than let a negative comment from someone that I don’t even know bother me. Thank you for being such a sweet person ! It’s always wonderful to truly make new friends on here🩵🤍🩵

Lilliane Noooo gurll.Jameson’s mission had a veryy big purpose and it concerned him and his own self cu we see how he finally realised that he matters and that he can indeed win without relying on anybody else and also we came to know his other uncles and his father’s character.I mean if u wouldn’t call that purpose what would it be???

I see that but it wasn't really required imo. If she had to write that for him, would work better as a novella 😅

Exactly! It didn't work at all. If she had to write these storylines, would have worked better as novellas.

Jamie I’m about 100 pages in and so far agree with everything you’re saying. I can’t decide whether it’s worth it to finish or just move on. I’m so disappointed with the way this book is progressing and frankly, I’m pretty bored.

I guess just skim through it, you won't miss out on much. The ending and epilogue especially is good enough as it sets up the storyline for the next book. This book comes across as written by a completely different author tbh

Brittany I loved this book but I’m fully on board with Avery and Jameson. It seems those who prefer Grayson don’t like it as much.
I thought him connecting with his two sisters was a great way to allow him to heal and deal with some of his trauma so he can learn to fully love someone in the next book. I think it’ll be the mystery girl on the phone rather than Eve, though.

I liked Jameson's character growth a lot in the last book and he had a lot to offer. His chemistry with Avery was really good too but this one didn't work at all. Their interactions had zero chemistry.
Hopefully lol. I can't stand Eve..
Glad you had a good time with this book tho :)

message 233: by Denise (new) - rated it 3 stars

Denise I’m only about 1/3 into this book but I fully agree with everything you said. Jameson’s storyline is boring and I don’t understand why he’d do a favor for his deadbeat dad and the interactions between him and Avery are minimal and surface level. I thought we’d get more Nash and Xander considering why they all came to London but that’s not happening so far. Grayson’s storyline is the only thing keeping me going.

message 243: by Ashley (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ashley R After 5 chapters, I began to just read the chapters from Grayson POV until the end, then went back and read Jameson’s POV until the end. It made the storyline flow so much better and was less confusing. I firmly believe this could have been two novellas one for each brother.
