I've had my ups and downs with this author and this is definitely one of the downs. I admit to being biased because I never liked Chase and I never warmed up to her all the way. The hero was very nice, but wasn't enough to save a book that was boring. I know most romances don't really have a plot and they're mainly character-driven. However, it felt like even less things happened in this book than usual.

In this book there were tons of secrets and lots of mistrust until the very end, a woman so out of time and place in a 19th century HR as a fish out of the water, a 9-year-old that talks like a 99-year-old, endless inner monologues and a hero that suffers from a severe case of love-at-first-sight, something I have grown very intolerant with. HR writers, if you want to write about women who would be considered manly and too progressive even in 2015 maybe you should consider switching genres. Something like urban fantasy for example would do the trick nicely.

On the positive side, Sarah Maclean is very good at building up chemistry. Sometimes her books are so needlessly melodramatic though that they feel fake and forced.

P.S.: This reader is in a very grumpy mood. This may or may not have influenced her enjoyment and rating/review of the book.

Gracey Hmmm i had my doubts about this. The reviews on the 3rd one were also bad :(

Iliada I liked the third one very much actually though the second is my favourite. This one, however, I didn't like at all. I couldn't wait to finish it.

Gracey I have to read the third one then but skip this. Dinya feels the same way so it must be bad :/

Iliada Good choice! I would recommend reading it only if you want to have the whole picture of the series.

Mei I'm sorry you didn't liked it... *hugs*

Pssstttt... why you're grumpy?

Iliada Hi Mei! I haven't been around for a while. How are you? Well, I really don't know. I had to stop reading for about a month and now nothing seems interesting enough.

Me neither! I was nursing my mom who was not feeling well... poor dear...
I'm good, but really tired...
How are you?

I'm sorry to hear that there're no interesting books around... If I find something worthwhile, I'll send you a rec! :)

Oh my God! I'm sorry for your mother. I hope she's alright now.

I was tired too. I had so much studying to do I had to give up reading. I've had some great holidays though. I came back to Greece to visit my family and friends.

Hi Jill! I haven't talked to you in months! I thought you were gone from GR like forever. I'm glad you're back.

This author can write really good romances but sometimes they're so unbelievable I can't stop thinking what I'm reading is just a silly story. I don't know what to do with HRs anymore. I'm running out of patience.

Iliada No, I haven't but her books sound very interesting! I just downloaded it.
