“Know something? I'd lay even odds that between the people following us and the people hunting us, we've become this city's principle means of employment. Tal Verrar's entire economy is now based on fucking with us.”

The follow-up of the marvellous, funny, dark, The Lies of Locke Lamora, this novel does not manage to reach the greatness of the first volume. Still, I very much enjoyed reading about the adventures of my favourite duo of thieves, Locke and Jean.

One of the reasons that I wasn't so convinced by this novel is that the action as mostly at sea and I am not so fond of sailing adventures. I do not know why but I never cared about this subject. Despite this, the author managed to capture my attention and I ended up reading with almost pleasure about the life at sea.

The dialogue between Locke and Jean is the soul of the novel and the main reason I will read the next chapter in the series next year.

I warmly recommend any fantasy fan to try the series. I have only a small advice: if you do not like cussing words than you should stay away from this book as they abound.

I am a bit. I do not like high waves but mostly I find the discussion about boat parts and life at sea boring.

ChopinFC Great Review..I loved this entire series, and can't wait for 4th book(any day now🤔). I actually thought the Pirates added a whole new dimension, specially as Locke and Jean were so clueless at sea.

I tried to pace myself in order to finish the 3rd volume less than an year before the 4th one comes out. However, as i see it will not happen too soon I will probably go ahead and read it this year. Scott Lynch and Patrick Rothfuss cured me from starting unfinished series. I don't know what to do with the Stormlight Archive though as i am not sure it will be finished too soon and I would like to start it.

Adina, don't even mention Rothfuss..I'm so pissed at the guy, cause I freaking love 'Kingkiller chronicles' and it's been 6 years and counting....... :(

Lynch on the other hand had some personal issues with his health, so I can understand the delay.

BTW , you'd be crazy not to start Stormlight!! Stormlight series represent, in my humble opinion, the best that's its out there in epic fantasy!! Specially with 'Oathbringer' at out doorsteps, you will fall in love with the series.

I loved he first one and I could not get into the 2nd one because there was a long time between the two of them. I decided to try again after the final volume is published. I don't want to re-read the first volume but i might have to.

I know about Lynch's problems, that's why i am not expecting to see the next Locke adventure too soon.

Ok, I might be convinced to start the Stormlight series sometimes next year. i read only good stuff about it but i do not want it to remain unfinished. Thankfully, Sanderson does not seem to suffer from writer's block.

Mayim de Vries I don't know how I missed this review before. The bromance is great in this instalment!

Mayim de Vries Yup, and now I am enduring the excruciating wait for the Thorn of Emberlain. :)

Mayim de Vries very sensible strategy I have to say, I wasn't as strong-willed
