Torment (Fallen, #2)

No book has been more aptly named. I read this as a follow up to Fallen (which was a mighty let down itself) in hopes that it would somehow clear up some of the jagged and, at times, blatantly ignored plot points. It didn't. Instead, I was treated to nearly 500 pages of an insipid, seemingly bipolar angel who inexplicably loves a fickle, petulant, whiny girl-child who couldn't decipher the back of a cereal box with a room full of Mensa members helping her.
Though I can't really fault Luce the difficulty she finds in understanding her circumstances since they are *never* explained beyond an interrupted rumor. Nev-er. For hundreds of pages, not even a little bit explained.
I closed this book and the only remaining feeling I had (aside from intense ire at the time and money lost in reading it) was, "What was the point?!"
Luce isn't the type of girl I would waste a piece of gum on, let alone wage wars between Heaven and Hell. And if you clipped Daniels wings, he would be just another emotionally stunted, practically abusive teenage boy. Some angel. Some heroine. Epic love? Nope. Epic fail.

Thanks! I still shiver with anger whenever I think of these books. TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT!
It's a shame too, the premise (in the hands of a skilled author!) could have been truly amazing.

I concur although I must admit that I really liked Fallen but only because of Cam. Daniel is a milque toast bit** and Luce is whiny and insecure. Of course Cam was almost absent from the book, and she really threw me for a loop when she introduce Miles (who I loathe, I'm sorry but he was just flat.)
She is ready to throw away this epic love (not that I think of it that way) for popcorn and a flabby shoulder to cry on. I am still peeved about the book clearly, lol.

That's pretty dead on. I was intrigued by the idea of seeing the announcers and bits of Luce's past but even then we still didn't get a good idea of anything. The thing that bugged me the most is everyone telling her to stay on campus, but her angel and demon teachers allowing her to go off campus at times (the yacht expedition or into the woods). Weren't they clued into anything? The lack of information was just irritating. I for one believed Daniel owed Luce a little more information just so she wouldn't go off doing stupid things.
Thanks for warning me. I hated the first and was thinking of giving it another try but after your review and everyone else I decided to save the 5 hours of reading.
