really liked it
bookshelves: 2017, audio, coming-of-age, classic, library

Finally read this classic. Glad to be in the know!

I can see why this has stood the test of time. The story is easy to get into and keeps your attention throughout. It seems like any person, young or old, rich or poor, popular or outcast could empathize or sympathize the themes. Finally, the key climax points are done very well and hit you right in the feels!

Another thought I had while reading is this is another one of the young adult fore fathers. We now take for granted that every week there will be 10 new YA titles to pique our interest. Back when this came out, the YA gems were few and far between. Reading this should be a right of passage for YA fans everywhere.

No problem Peter! Thanks for your feedback. I have not seen the movie yet, but I probably should soon.

Peter, the book is better than any movie version. :)

Loretta Matthew, now you have to read her other classic, That Was Then, This Is Now. :)

I saw that when I was looking up S.E. Hinton after reading this. I didn't even realize that she had other books! And, I have never heard of the movie they made out of That Was Then, This Is Now.

I'm not sure if they made a movie of That Was Then, This Is Now Matthew, but the book is really good.

No problem! I would have thought I would have heard of it since I grew up with 80s movies and it has Emilio Estivez - I thought I had seen everything hew was in.

Amy Is it a similar book to westside story.

Loretta To me, West Side Story is a love story and very similar to Shakespeare’s, Romeo and Juliet. The Outsiders has glimpses of romance, but I would hardly call it a romance novel. It’s based on coming of age and friendships.

Kenneth L. "Back when this came out, the YA gems were few and far between." Hinton's book is credited as inaugurating the YA genre. It was a pioneer, the first of its kind.
