3 “Mafia-Lite” Stars
Quick re-read so I could add a review. I’m keeping it at a 3; it was ok, but I couldn’t remember it at all until I was in a good chunk…so while entertaining… it’s forgettable. The story is mostly told from Catalina’s (Cat) POV; a 28-year-old ballerina, and eldest daughter of a Chicago mobster. Lorenzo is a uber sexy attorney/thief/mobster (I was a tad confused) who I THINK is from a rival family. So there’s a “forbidden romance” vibe going on.
The Good- The couple meets within the first part, and have an instant connection. The sex is numerous and steamy. There’s twist and action throughout to keep you interested.
The Bad- I felt like the mafia part was “lite”, and that the backstory needed more. I was fuzzy on a lot of details. Some parts felt rushed, and others felt dropped. (view spoiler)
Bottom Line- I like the gritty mafia trope, but IMO, this lacked the action, violence, and drama we typically see. It might be good for readers interested, but unsure of the genre to dip a toe, and get a feel. It’s free to read on KU, so give it a shot.
