Jessica I guess you can't ask for more, Manny, since there is really nothing left for a sequel...just kidding.

One of my favorite Shakespearan plays.

Manny
Funny you should say that. At one point, my kids believed that all movies had sequels (you can see why, I can hardly blame them). I can't remember for sure whether they asked to see Hamlet 2, but I'm quite sure they inquired about the sequel to Carmen. We had fun speculating about how Hollywood would have fixed that. Perhaps Don Jose doesn't actually manage to kill her or himself, then she switches sides and helps him track down the smugglers...

Jessica I always think of First Blood, the beginning of Rambo, where he dies (or so I was told) in the movie. I knew he died in the book. Suddenly revitalized in print and on screen.

I can only do so many sequels. There are a few...but I can't think of many.
Jess

Bettie Oh noes...Doesn't everything have a sequel? We had Bush I and II to contend with, bringing Iraq I and II respectively. Toothaches and cucumbers also enjoy many sequels and prequels so now I verily demand another Schopenhauer epic for our handkerchiefs to attend.

Julie S. So you are Gertrude the Queen? Clever.

Manny Thank you! Though I was a little startled to find that she was the character I chose to identify with...

Chris I beg to differ on the plausibility of a sequel...

Manny I have heard about this movie. Seems to have a few things in common with The Producers, except that it's not as tasteful and restrained?

Chris I wouldn't exactly recommend the movie. I remember liking the trailer better than the actual movie, and it certainly doesn't compare quality-wise with The Producers. I just admire the audacity of the idea of a sequel to Hamlet.

message 10: by Ian (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ian "Marvin" Graye I think Shakespeare made up all this stuff about how great Hamlet was.

If he'd been truly great, there would have been a successor King Hamlet II by now. Not just a Prince Hamlet. (And therefore there could have been a sequel).

Instead, what did they name after him?

Bloody rural settlements that are too small to be called a village.

It would be like using the name "DeLillo" to describe anyone with a small penis.

Ian "Marvin" Graye There is always the argument that "Hamlet" itself is the sequel.

Irena Atanasoska definitely the best review I've read.

Manny Thank you Irena! If only I could figure out how to do it, I would expand my draft into a complete stream-of-consciousness novel...

Irena Atanasoska That's a hard one. It is perfectly packed in this one page (I don't know if it is a full page.)
I read again and again to see how you can expand but it's perfect the way it is. But I think you'll find a way :)

Manny Maybe you're right, and it has to stay a short story...

Samantha Mays And not a full stop in sight. Well done Manlet.

Manny I'd just read Belle du Seigneur and been impressed by the stream-of-consciousness passages...

message 18: by Mike (new)

Mike Would one breath last long enough for a full blown novel or even a novella?

Manny I believe it has been tried. You need to do special yoga exercises or something to be able to read the result.

message 20: by Mike (new)

Mike I know this young woman who was originally introduced to a friend because he wanted to date a 6-foot tall, Chinese stripper...

She does dance "pole", she is quite intelligent and beautiful, has a keen wit, and just so happens to teach yoga. If anyone can read that book, she can!

Of course her large lung capacity helps, too.

Manny She sounds like a character from a Coen Brothers movie. I am pleased to hear that some of them actually exist.

At least one does - and she's sweet, too.

BTW - she came to the US at age 9 and except for an occasional flutter on new & odd English words, speaks with zero accent or hesitation and has a large & erudite vocabulary. A good SLA learner.

message 23: by Crystal Dawn (new) - added it

Crystal Dawn Perhaps one of your best reviews! I did however notice though who you choice to recite from, haha.

Manny Thank you Crystal! Surely some feminist auteur would like to expand this little sketch into a full-length movie? I mean, if it hasn't already been done.

message 25: by Crystal Dawn (new) - added it

Crystal Dawn I'm sure if you chose to look in the Female Drama section of your local store there would be umpteen ... It could be worse though, It could be in the Teen Drama section.
Perhaps you could be employed to write the screenplay, haha.

Manny Thank you again Crystal, I shall investigate.

Vanessa J. Why does that shelf name ("too sexy for maiden aunts") make me laugh this much? xD

Manny It's terrible, Vane. Everyone laughs at those poor maiden aunts, and they don't know why either.

message 29: by Mike (new)

Mike A' la` Margret Dumont is many Marx Brothers movies. A true blue-blood actress from Boston (I think) she never got the jokes and the ad libs that were constantly uttered around and at her.

message 30: by Cecily (new)

Cecily I think people often assume their aunts are more maidenly than is the case.

Abeer Abdullah i love you , seriously hahahah

Manny I love you too, in a kind of Platonic, internet way.

Olivia “Hamlet 2: Hamlet takes New York”

Hollywood has mysteriously resurrected plenty of characters for sequels before, so I’m sure it would be a snap.

Manny I guess Ophelia faked her death too? Or maybe she has a twin. There are so many possibilities!

Manny Johnny wrote: "Epstein is in the CIA. He is still alive. CIA should be removed.

CIA tech wicket wicket wicket

Sarasota Florida is a training ground for the CIA."

Thank you Johnny, most people completely miss this hidden message in Hamlet.
