I actually can't believe it. This series is OVER- this is the last time I'll write a review for a Throne of Glass book, or get shocked at one of the insane plot twists at the end or root for Rowaelin. I'm not ready to let this series go- at all. Once it actually sinks in, I think I'm just gonna crawl into a corner and cry for a bit 😭😭🤧🤧💔💔

But ANYWAY, onto the actual review. Obviously I had high expectations for this book- so many people loved this book and the good reviews are endless. But despite those expectations, I still absolutely loved this book and think it's the PERFECT end to the series! 😩😩🤌🤌

“You do not yield.”

As you probably know, Kingdom of Ash is the epic finale to the Throne of Glass series. It's a whopping 980 pages and when the conflicts in the previous books escalate into full-out war. The book is full of battle and violence, but also has those amazing romances on the side and lots of character growth. It's such a layered book and there's so much going on in it!

“To whatever end?” she breathed. Rowan followed her, as he had his entire life, long before they had ever met, before their souls had sparked into existence. “To whatever end, Fireheart.”

Starting with the characters. If you have any of my other reviews for this series, then you know how OBSESSED I am with these characters. The growth they've all gone throughout this series is actually insane and I love so much of them SO MUCH. Even those I don't like that much (*ahem* Aedion *ahem*) I can appreciate how well-developed they are. AAAHHHH I LOVE THEM 🥺🥺❤❤

➡️ Aelin Galathynius:

THE LOVE I HAVE FOR AELIN IS ACTUALLY INSANE 😩😩 To think that my feelings on her earlier on in the series were definitely ~ mixed ~, it's amazing that I've come to adore her so much. It's so easy to root for her and I feel every pain and loss, as well as every victory and scrap of happiness. She's been through so much and for basically the whole book my heart was breaking for her. So glad she had Rowan there for her tho 💞💞 Honestly, topping Aelin as a protagonist is gonna be damn hard. I JUST LOVE HER SO MUCH 🥺🥺❤❤

➡️ Rowan Whitethorn:

Yeahhhh, I'm probably a little bit TOO obsessed with Rowan- but I can't help it 🤭🤭❤❤ He's just TOO INCREDIBLE. One of my fav book boyfriends. I just LOVE the different layers with him, his amazing love for Aelin and his interactions with all the other characters. Now I'm just gonna shut up about him before I start talking about him for the whole review. But just know that if I end up obsessed with sexy Fae males, I'm blaming Rowan Whitethorn 👀

➡️ Manon Blackbeak:

I actually LOVED Manon in this!! 🤩🤩 I feel like this is the most I've loved her since her introduction in HoF. Tho I did still really like her in QoS and EoS, I feel like her vicious & ruthless nature was getting a tinyy bit repeititve, so seeing a bit of a different side to her in this book was just amazing! I loved seeing her character develop and grow in this instalment- and obviously she's still super vicious, which I love her for 😌😌❤❤ Also, loved her bond with the Thirteen even more in this book!! They're so like family and it's amazing to see.

➡️ Elide Lochan:

I just love Elide 😍😍 SUCH a good character and her development since her introduction in QoS has been amazing! I can't explain exactly why I love her SO much, but she's my baby and must be protected at all costs ❤

➡️ Yrene Towers:

This was Yrene's second full book in the series and I still LOVE her!! 🥰🥰 Her strength is still a wonder to me and I loved seeing her become part of our main group. Seeing her being so happy with her partner was also so wonderful 🥺🥺❤❤

➡️ Other characters:

As always, the side characters were great! Some of the best ones were definitely Lysandra, Lorcan (whom I just love for no reason), and Chaol, who I've actually come to really like since ToD! All the characters in this series are just too good 😩😩🤌🤌

Next, the writing! Yep, the writing is just amazing. So smooth and easy to read, it made me so excited to keep reading every time I picked the book up again. SJM's writing describes emotion incredibly well and makes the action scenes electrifying to read. It's so readable, yet the descriptions are still so lovely. I literally have no criticisms for it.

“We are the Thirteen,” she said. “From now until the Darkness claims us.”

The plot. I LOVED the plot in this!! 😍😍 It was pretty fast-paced, yet it also took time to develop the characters and the atmosphere. I enjoyed the accurate depiction of war and thought the battle scenes were incredibly well done. It was almost impossible to know what was going to happen next and I loved that! The ending was also PERFECT. I felt extremely satisfied reading it 😌😌

Also, I was a bit intimidated going into this bc of the size, but 980 pages only felt like 500!! That's how much I was enjoying this.

Lastly, the romance. This series is honestly worth it JUST for the romance. So many AMAZING ships- I'm obsessed!! 😩😩

➡️ Rowan x Aelin:

Rowaelin is just PERFECTION 🥺🥺🤌🤌 I have been obsessed with them since their first meeting in HoF and the journey I've been through with them is just incredible. The love they have is just so GOOD and I'm obsessed with all their interactions. I LOVED their ending together and- *sigh* they're just too good 😩😩❤❤

➡️ Lorcan x Elide:

I was ACTUALLY obsessed with them in this book!! 😍😍 They were amazing in EoS, but even BETTER in this one!! Yes, the fact that they were fighting for basically 500 pages was kinda annoying, but after that- SO GOOD. And Lord Lorcan Lochan-- I will be forever obsessed with that. Seriously 🤭🤭

➡️ Dorian x Manon:

If I'm being honest, I wasn't the biggest fan of them in previous books but I did like them more in this one! I really liked the progression of their relationship and I'm happy they're especially more of an emotional connection, rather than just a physical one. I also loved their ending! It was great 🥰🥰

➡️ Aedion x Lysandra:

Ummmm... wasn't the biggest fan of them in this one 😬😬 I really liked them together in EoS, but I feel like they kinda went downhill in this one. Some of their arguments felt a bit too petty sooo... eh idk I just wasn't a big fan 😖😖

➡️ Yrene x Chaol:

I don't have a huge amount to say about their relationship, bc it didn't go through a huge amount of development in this one. But I just loved seeing them together <3 They make each other so happy and it's so heartwarming. At the very beginning of the series, I was rooting for Chaol to end up with Celeana/Aelin, but I'm really glad that it didn't happen, bc Yrene and Chaol are just perfection!! 🥺🥺❤❤

So, yeah, i ADORED this 😩😩❤❤ I wasn't sure how SJM was going to end this series, but I think the way she did it was just perfect. This book really was as good as everyone said it would be!!! I'm just so obsessed with this series. If you haven't read it yet- this is your sign to PICK IT UP RN. You can thank me later.

Now I'm just gonna crawl into a hole and cry that it's over 😭😭
