ngl, i was a bit disappointed w this one.

starting with the positives: wes is sweet as pie. he's definitely a cinnamon roll hero, and i liked the conversations had around depression (esp w relationships). the setting is cute and i love the entire ryder family dynamics. the spice was 🤌🏼 i would also jump a man's bones after seeing him rescue a precious baby cow 🥺

however.. i really just did not vibe w ada. i was expecting black cat energy, maybe sassy... but instead she was a "recovering 'i'm not like other girls girl'" which i'm sorry, but i couldn't stand being in that mindset. why give us this cool tattooed girly just for her to explain it away as her running away from "femininity". i sympathized w her for her shitty past relationship, but overall i just didn't really connect w her.

i also normally love a post-hook-up trope where one of them is trying to deny their feelings after, but not when that person is flat out avoiding, running away from, and giving the other person the cold shoulder. we lose valuable storytime where they could've been relationship building and it creates an unsatisfying instalove timeline. i remember hitting the 50% mark and feeling like ?? not much has happened?? also as a horse girl, i need more horse riding 😆

overall, it was ok. just not something for me, which the first one was moreso.

i liked the hints we got at cam and dusty (i sense much angst hehe) and of course, gus and teddy. i look forward to their books. hopefully with more horse riding lol
