my reading year in 2024
꒱
what’s up y’all! this year hasn’t been the best in terms of finding winners, but we win some, we lose some, i suppose. i’m not gonna be reading any more till the new year begins, so here’s my reading wrap up!
— 2024 has been rather busy for me, which i’d been anticipating, hence the huge reduction in my number of reads. i still managed to read 168 books (woohoo!), which i’m very proud of, since my reading goal was 150. (for reference, i read 412 last year.)
— my tastes have changed quite a bit over the past year! i’ve noticed i’m leaning more towards reading lighthearted & humorous books than the darker, emotional type. even when i do read dark fiction (romance, mostly), i tend to get nitpicky and more critical — because i apparently have higher standards for books in that genre.
— my most read authors this year are: john wiltshire (duh, i binged the entire more heat than the sun series within the span of 2 weeks in the start of the year lmao), cat sebastian (how i adore this author), mò xiāng tóng xiù (did i mention i finally got around to reading módào zǔshī and i’m so glad i did? it was truly splendid, and i adored wangxian), marina vivancos (my beloved!), haley cass (so dear to me, again), and runyx (no comment).
— my average rating for the year, according to storygraph, is 2.92, so… evidently i have been much pickier this year lol.
— i managed to check out all except one of the books on my immediate tbr that i’d been intending to read this year, which was so surprising to me because i rarely tend to stick to such goals. it brought me some unexpected wins — like the seven husbands of evelyn hugo and babel — which i’m very glad for. (alas, the iskari series got left out, but oh well. there’s always next year.)
— i participated in the 12 recs by 12 friends challenge this year and got around to reading all my friends’ recommendations (at least partially), so cheers to that! i didn’t get around to finishing 4 of them, but that’s another topic.
— i also took part in the trans reading challenge 2024, organized by @readwithrhys, and read some very intriguing as well as enlightening books. i’d recommend if you still recognize me by cynthia so, gender queer by maia kobabe and the prospects by k.t. hoffman.
— i joined the storygraph’s onboarding reading challenge mid-year as well and completed all the prompts! sadly all duds, from what i read. but hey, at least i tried.
— i buddy read a whopping 24 books with my friends! most of them were with buket, my beloved. i adore you.
— i watched three shows in the latter half of the year that i got absolutely obsessed with: interview with the vampire, heartstopper, and arcane. and two of them have bicons i’m obsessed with! (yes, nick, i mean you, you adorable lil cutie. and yes, of course it’s you, lestat de lioncourt, don’t you smirk that evil smirk at me.)

LMAO it's fun, plus i don't wanna miss anything out when i do it in december so i'm making a few points right now 😭 but omg that's sad :// hope you find some amazing reads soon fr 🫶🫶

we're absolutely crazy but it's definitely sm fun 😭🤣 thanks, love!! 🫶🫶

not at all 🫣🫶 it's not mine anyway lol i only used it bc it looked pretty, so of course!

LMAO thanks bestie <3 ikr, everything's going so fast and i can hardly keep up 🥲 i cannot believe that it's august already omg

LMAO good luck for making one though!! i realized the 2024 one had come up already and just wanted to make one so that i’d not miss out on writing few releases from before 🤣😭 also i’m so glad you can relate with the reading challenge. fr this year i first put it to 300 books but changed it midway, not bc i can’t read that much but bc i hated seeing the ‘incomplete’ gr challenge on my profile LMAO 😩 it added so much pressure that i really didn’t want lol.

ahahah thanks, ellie!! 💖 idk about dedication ‘cause i just didn’t wanna feel pressured to do it later 😭😂 definitely never too early to wish best of luck though!😌 i hope so too 🤞

oh yeah i get that. that’s why i always keep a challenge i know i’ll be able to reach, otherwise i feel panicked and i hate that feeling of it being out of control. :/ i like doing the year on gr thing though bc it helps me organize my plans for the coming/ongoing year, and i can track how i’ve read over the years (bc i read a lot before i came on gr too, but i’ve forgotten most of them except for my absolute favs so this is an easier way to remember all of my thoughts and ideas for the year). it does get hard tracking every read on this though which is why i only add my favorite reads in the end of the month 😩 but thanks, love! 💘

Ohh no, I get that and it's poor word choice on my side. Didn't mean it as in dedication to the next year reading( sorry if it felt pressing), but more of, really like how you are organizing and clearing/setting your intentions for the next year.

All the best for your year crazy human, and I bet you’ll read FAR more than 100 books!💗💗

LMAO it's just fun ok 😩

no of course of course! it wasn't pressing at all, i just wanted to clarify lol. but yeah, i agree with you about everything being hectic cause with exams + projects, im probably gonna have a hard time balancing everything next year 😭

All the best for your year crazy human, and I bet you’ll read FAR more than 100 books!💗💗"
LOL i just like making plans 😭😂 thank you, ml! <3 we shall have to see, i guess 👀

haha thank you, morsal! 🤍

i felt like it was necessary for me to add that cause i keep forgetting it lol. but thank you, gloria! 🥺🫶 i cannot wait to see your gorgeous reviews the upcoming year as well! 🥰

hahaha thank you, ri! 🫶 i like the feeling of being organized and prepared for the next year, even if i'm not - it just helps calm me, lol. plus it's pretty fun making plans and using pretty aesthetics, even if im not gonna follow them 😂 i have no doubt your year is gonna go just as well if not better, though. 😌

lmaoo no, ive just done it bc i like to feel organized even when im not 😂 but thank you, girl! 💗

lol the way i do that too which is why i haven't added any specific goals with my reading 💀

honestly the thing is, i know i can read more than 100 books even with everything happening (exams + projects i have coming up) but i also wanna branch out and find new hobbies like watching shows more, cause i've recently restarted getting into that and i'm really enjoying rediscovering it - it's a different feeling altogether. 🫶 but yeah, i don't wanna stress myself out too much with my reading goals which is why i thought 100 was a safe target for me. 😂
i'm definitely a-type personality cause i get easily stressed and i'm competitive and love making plans (and manage to half follow them, so i consider that a win from my side lol). love how we both are, though. 😌 one book a week sounds perfect honestly! you can just let go of all the worries of the day by reading a few chapters every night and finish it in roughly about a week with no problem, and i get why you'd want to reduce your goal too if you have other plans coming up. best of luck with all of them, love! i hope everything goes amazing. literally ann liang has become a comfort author with her books for me - even though i know If You Could See the Sun wasn't the biggest hit with some people bc of how unrealistic and ott it was, i found it so cute and just... comforting. and This Time It's Real was so adorable too. 🥺 so i'm definitely really looking forward to both releases of hers this upcoming year! as for holly black, i'm actually kinda scared as to whether her book will deliver. i rated book one in the stolen heir duology 4 stars even though now that i think back, it'd probably be 3 stars from me bc while i loved being back in elfhame, i didn't like certain parts of the book and felt like they weren't developed properly. i still enjoyed though as far as i remember lol, so hopefully holly does the characters justice! 😭🤞 and omg do - i saw the concept of hafsah faizal's book and got so intrigued. i haven't added all the books i want to for the coming year yet but i definitely have to look over the lists again when they're updated cause i know some banger reads are gonna come up next year but i also wanna select my reads so that i know i'm gonna enjoy most, if not all, of my reads at least to a certain extent lol.
i can't wait to see which books you end up reading in 2024 as well, deems! 🫶 i already know you're gonna make me add so many books to my tbr 😭 and aww thank you so so much, deema! 🥹 i hope you have an absolutely fantastic 2024 too and everything works out, both reading-wise and with life goals. <3

thank you so much!! 🫶

hahahaha thank you, brooke!! i hope so too <3

hahaha i rarely ever follow my goals so i thought why keep any in the first place. but i wish you best of luck with your 2023 goals! hopefully you will be able to achieve them and surprise yourself in the best ways 💗

hehehe i can't help it, i like keeping things in order 😭 thank you sm, love! i can't wait to see yours when you make it 🥹💖
