The Cross and the Trinity (The James Lucas Trilogy, #2)

Polyamory done right.
I loved Tate, Sebastian and James as soon as I read them in the predecessor to this, Beyond the Edge. At the end of that one I had concerns about long term issues and, no surprise, they reared their ugly heads and brings us here.
I gotta be honest, the bridge for the two stories is rough, and not just content-wise but also writing style. In order to get from there to here things have to implode. I get that and it makes sense, but the crash is long and drawn out. It needed to be tightened. Plus the style of writing was significantly different, much more a reportage/summary and that would have been great if it was 10% of the beginning of the book, but it went on for the first third. If I wasn't so familiar with the characters and their interaction potential I would have DNF the book and been disgruntled. Soldiering on pays off.
When Tate, Sebastian and James finally come back together it is as if we never left the first time. Spectacular sensual play featuring fisting, puppy play and a decadent play party they attend. Smorgasbord of cock, tail and toys.
Little spoilery bits that I'm gonna hide :)
(view spoiler)
So, how do I rate it?
The beginning was so dreadful that it is 2 stars and the second half is the delight I expected and 5 stars--so I'm gonna use math and divide the rating. 3.5 stars.
Favorite passage 'cause James is so damn hot:

Vivian, maybe you should read this for the twister? There was orgasm denial in the first book, so probably in this too? I'd buy it for you and loan it to you if you want? I've been wanting to read this one for a while.
Sounds perfect, but might have to wait a day or two because it only seems to be for sale of MLR Press. I can wait for it.
Might be up on Amazon tomorrow or next day. I see a different vendor with the ebook coming up each day. First MLR, ARe, today is B&N so maybe tomorrow? O_o
If you want to buy it now and read the B&N book, I can borrow it from you when you're done. Or if you want to wait a few more days i'll buy it from Amazon. I can borrow Nook books and read them on my phone, I just only buy books from Amazon because I have a kindle. Either way is good for me, so let me know what's is best for you:)
I'm missing a puzzle piece and it's driving me nuts. The whole story trajectory--DONE, but I need one speed bump and no frickin' clue what it is at the moment, Guess I'll write the finale.
Okay, it's available on Amazon--you want to buy or shall I? Don't care, I do have $$ in my budget for this one :)
You two crack me up! Not much longer until I finish Beyond the Edge and I think I'm going to continue right into this one.

I'm in the middle of re-reading the first one so I can go straight to the second!

Your updates were totally giving me anxiety last night! Glad it's going better now. I want (view spoiler)
Ok I'm gonna read this but I appreciate the tip to stick with it cause I have a feeling the first bit would make me wanna quit!
Great review. Thanks for the warning about the beginning. I didn't peek at your spoilery bits. Will wait until I read this bad boy.
I totally agree with you in the scene when Tate is playing with the "white ooze." I laughed when James scolded him for taking his time and playing around with it.
