really liked it

3.75 stars. Daryus, the male alien emperor lead, feels frustrated by the mess his empire is disintegrating into, as his best friends and two next most powerful people in his empire have found fated mates in a species conquered (and partially destroyed) by their enemies. He’s desperately trying to find a resolution that will allow him to save the aliens his people need without causing cataclysmic changes. Then he finds Heather, the female human diplomacy-trained lead, hiding in his rooms. He’s intrigued by her but knows that it can’t go anywhere…

Heather knows that she should feel grateful to be saved from the disaster that Earth has become but her host makes her feel like she’s not grateful enough. When she accidentally meets the emperor, she’s surprised but she’s also not willing to hide who she is.

But Daryus has many enemies and Heather makes a convenient target…

This story is dual POV, well written, and an interesting, detailed finale to this sci fi romance series. I appreciated Heather’s calmness in the face of many challenges and enjoyed her willingness to be brutally honest with Daryus, regardless of the power imbalance, and to offer him genuine solutions that accounted for the political situation they were in. I enjoyed Daryus’ political canniness and his cleverness in dealing with things he didn’t like for maximum impact later. I enjoyed the intimate scenes. I enjoyed the world building and the set up for maximum change. I enjoyed the way antagonists were dealt with. I enjoyed the cameos from characters in the earlier stories. I really enjoyed the series ending.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
