"I first saw Swans live at the Pyramid: it was one of the most extreme outpourings that I had seen, ever, of sweat and snot and saliva, visceral desperation and anger - both visually, and musically. It was really stripped but it wasn't just some primitive caveman thing. Plodding aural torture of the most magnificent kind. The overawing loudness, underneath it was those flesh wounds."
