it was amazing
bookshelves: excellent, own, historical-fiction, young-adult

Expectations scare me. I had heard so many wonderful things about this book. And it’s never a good idea to expect too much, because that’s such a big opportunity for disappointment. So I always prefer to know the least amount possible about any book I’m interested in. However, the insurmountable praise for The Outsiders has always been tough to evade. It’s everywhere.

I found that the quality of this book was perfectly evidenced by the fact that the immense expectation and build-up accumulated throughout the years were so well met by the actual classic worthiness of the story and the way it was told.

Loved the simple, original narrative. Great, real, well-developed, relatable characters.

This book is heartwarming and heartbreaking... so prepare your heart for the exercise.

Mayra Ivy, hehhehee no spoilers please ;)
I loved the ending. It was heartbreaking but happy endings are not very realistic...

Starlight gold I agree with you

Choko Lovely review!

Mayra Thank you so much, Choko!

Jonnie I'm pretty sure they banned this book in schools, which is RIDIC -- it's such a great coming-of-age novel! Glad you enjoyed <3 have you seen the movie?

Mayra Jonnie, I didn't know that, it's truly ridiculous.
I haven't seen the movie yet, and I don't know if I will... I guess it's a little weird, because I love watching adaptations, but there are some books, like "I Capture the Castle", and this one, in which the characters appearance and personality are so well ingrained in my imagination, that for some reason, I don't want to mar that.
Maybe one day, when the imagination starts to fade, I'll watch it.
Is it any good?

Jonnie No I definitely understand what you mean haha. Some books I never want made into movies because I'd expect too much, ergo my imagination trumps everything :') the last time I read this book was when I was 16 and I watched the movie straight afterwards (all for academic purposes), so I can't rate it on an enjoyment scale lol. It's basically identical to the book though -- and Patrick Swayze is in it and he makes my heart thump! :'D <3

Gwennypenny I've been putting off reading this due to expectations, but I might give it a go now!

Mayra Jonnie, I know, right? The cast is great actually!

Gwen, you really should, it's a truly special book.

Ellen I loved your review Mayra. Also loved the book and the movie which I read/watched last year finally only because we were teaching it. I'm so glad I did.
