Playing with words and ideas and story-structure in order to "paint" the tale you want to tell. It can be difficult and frustrating, but it is also a lot of fun and rewarding.(less)

I know from experience how difficult it can sometimes be to find the time -especially if you have kids, and have another job in order to earn a more secure income - but even a little bit helps. For me, it works if I set aside a time for writing every day, even if it's just a short time. Inspiration is good, but hard work is what really pays off if you're writing a book.(less)

Story day! Listen to my new story “Siska Howls” on the SUDDEN FICTIONS PODCAST

I have a brand new story out today on the Sudden Fictions Podcast. The story is titled “Siska Howls” and it was inspired by the podcast’s prompt for September which was “howl”. The story is narrated by R.B. Wood and I am so grateful to him for running such an excellent podcast and for giving… Continue reading Story day! I thoroughly enjoyed this scifi romp. There's aliens, a UFO crash, a smalltown mystery that seems to be warping reality, there's some truly wonderful queer and neurodiverse rep, there's a meet-weird/cute romance, very sharp and funny dialogue AND the ...more

“It's all about being seen... You can be the best fookin' band in the world but if nobody can see you, you might as well be in the fookin' worst.”
Chas Chandler quoted in Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back In Town

George R.R. Martin
“---Sansa sat with her hands folded in her lap, watching with a strange fascination. She had never seen a man die before. She ought to be crying too, she thought, but the tears would not come. Perhaps she had used up all her tears for Lady and Bran. It would be different if it had been Jory or Ser Rodrik or Father, she told herself. The young man in the blue cloak was nothing to her, some stranger from the Vale of Arryn whose name she had forgotten as soon as she heard it. And now the world would forget his name too, Sansa realized; there would be no songs sung for him. That was sad.”
George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

“If "Fighting" produced one very positive thing in the studio, it introduced that unique twin guitar sound that would be part and parcel of Thin Lizzy. It emerged from nowhere towards the end of the recording, up until that point Gorham and Robertson would simply share solos between them: "It was a complete accident," Gorham said later. "Brian Robertson was playing a single note line. Somebody flipped the delay button on. It was something like a quarter-second delay, and the note followed him accidentally in harmony. Everybody was amazed at the effect. We decided to try it for real and put it on whatever decent lines it made sense with.”
Scott Gorham quoted in "Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back In Town"

David Mitchell
“If you show someone something you've written, you give them a sharpened stake, lie down in your coffin, and say, ‘When you’re ready’.”
David Mitchell, Black Swan Green

Ursula K. Le Guin
“There have been great societies that did not use the wheel, but there have been no societies that did not tell stories.”
