Anne Hagan is the author of more than twenty works of fiction in the mystery, romance, and thriller genres. She writes of family, friends, love, murder, and mayhem in no particular order and often all in the same story. She’s a half owner of the weekly discount eBook newsletter, MyQueerSapphFic, the managing director of the non-profit, iReadIndies, a wife, parent, foster parent, and an Army veteran. She draws from all of those experiences when she writes because truth is often stranger than fiction.

Everyone I read on the topic of writing had their own take on how to deal with writer's block. Most say to just write something until you power through it even if it isn't anything you'll ultimately end up using. Do that if it works for you.

Me? I just walk away from it for a while and let my subconscious mind play with my dilemma. For example, It took me three weeks to write the last 10 pages of Relic. I just couldn't figure out how I wanted to bring all the loose ends together. I would sit down to write and my thoughts would be swirling. Rather than get frustrated trying to bang something out for the sake of putting something in writing, I would just get up and walk away. The key for me was to come back each day and try. When you stop coming back, you never finish what you started.(less)

Did you ever get in an argument with someone and, afterward, think to yourself, "I should have said this" or "I should have done that"? As a writer, I can use those snippets of life and make them what they "should have been" and that's pretty cool.(less)

East Tennessee, The Newest Loving Blue in Red States Story

It’s been a long year of nothing new released from me. I know as an author, I’m not alone. I’ve worked on things, but I just haven’t been able to finish anything. I committed to doing a short story for the Lady Grim Halloween Anthology and that lit a fire. I sat down and decided to do another short, keep that fire burning but not create too much stress for myself if the words didn’t flow easily. L
