Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour was presented with the state's highest honor by Gov. Roy Cooper after Sunday's 4-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Brind'Amour received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, which is given to people who have made significant contributions to the state and their community. Cooper was in the Hurricanes locker room prior to the game to read the starting lineup before returning amid the postgame celebration. The 67-year-old Cooper has long been a supporter of the Hurricanes and frequently attends home games.

Hofer won for the fourth straight start, beating the Rangers twice during the run. Former Ranger Pavel Buchnevich and Jordan Kyrou also scored as St. Louis took a 3-0 lead in the second period. Brett Berard and Will Cuylle scored for New York in the third. The Rangers have lost 10 of their last 13 games.

Dustin Tokarski made 27 saves in his first NHL appearance in nearly 22 months to help the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 on Sunday. The 35-year-old Tokarski appeared in five games this season with Chicago in the American Hockey League before joining Carolina, his sixth NHL team. Jordan Martinook had a goal and an assist, Sebastian Aho, William Carrier and Jesperi Kotkaniemi also scored and Jordan Staal had two assists. The Hurricanes won for the third time in eight games. Dmitri Voronkov scored for Columbus, and Elvis Merzlikins made 24 saves. The Blue Jackets have lost four straight.

Blackhawks goaltender Petr Mrazek is expected to skate on Monday as he works his way back from a left groin injury. The 32-year-old Mrazek was placed on injured reserve last weekend. He is 7-11-1 with a 2.83 goals-against average and .906 save percentage in 20 games this season. Blackhawks coach Anders Sorensen also said defenseman Seth Jones skated before their 5-3 victory over the Islanders. Jones was placed on IR on Nov. 16 with a right foot injury. Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno was scratched for the matchup with the Islanders because of an illness.

Mathew Barzal and Adam Pelech have returned to the lineup for the New York Islanders after being sidelined by upper-body injuries. Barzal hadn't played since Oct. 30, missing a total of 21 games. Pelech had been out since he took a puck to the face on Nov. 1 at Buffalo. Barzal skated for almost 21 minutes in a 5-3 loss at Chicago, and Pelech was on the ice for almost 20 minutes. Barzal had been on long-term injured reserve, and Pelech was on IR. The Islanders have been hit hard by injuries. They placed goaltender Semyon Varlamov on injured reserve on Saturday.

Pavel Zacha had a goal and an assist, and Brad Marchand, Morgan Geekie and Marc McLaughlin also scored for the Bruins. Jeremy Swayman stopped 19 shots. Max Sasson scored his first NHL goal for the Canucks, and Thatcher Demko made 24 saves. Vancouver lost for the third time in four games (1-2-1). Marchand opened the scoring on a power play 5:12 into the game, and Geekie made it 2-0 less than 3 minutes later. Zacha and McLaughlin doubled the lead in the second period, and Pastrnak made it 5-0 in the opening minute of the third.

Coming off a 4-0 loss at Vancouver on Thursday night, Florida has dropped consecutive games following a seven-game points streak. It is 18-11-2. Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman also scored for Calgary. Clayton Keller scored a power-play goal with 43.8 seconds remaining and the Utah Hockey Club rallied to beat the San Jose Sharks 4-3 on Saturday night. Michael Carcone tied it midway through the third and then Utah won it during 4-on-3 play shortly after Cody Ceci was called for high-sticking. Utah won the faceoff and Keller got the puck in the slot and beat Vitek Vanecek for his 10th goal of the season. Dylan Guenther and Nick Schmaltz also scored for Utah. Karel Vejmelka made 19 saves. Fabian Zetterlund gave San Jose a 3-2 lead early in the third period on the power play but the Sharks couldn't close it out. Alexander Wennberg and Mikael Granlund also scored for San Jose. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 38 shots in his Colorado debut, and the Avalanche held off a late Nashville surge to beat the Predators 5-2. Nathan MacKinnon had two goals and an assist, Artturi Leknonen scored twice and Ross Colton had a goal for the Avalanche. Steven Stamkos and Luke Evangelista scored for Nashville, and Juuse Saros finished with 29 saves. Colorado acquired Blackwood from San Jose on Monday and he made a great first impression in front of the home fans. He stopped the first 37 shots he faced before Stamkos scored with 6:57 remaining in the third.
