For over a decade, Google Research has been investing in ongoing efforts to track and understand wildfires, using AI technology to provide critical information to communities, emergency responders and researchers. Earlier this year we announced that our Wildfires boundaries alerts on Search and Maps are expanding to 15 countries across Europe and Africa.
Today we are excited to announce FireSat, which will be a step change in providing even more accurate information to all those involved in managing wildfires.
FireSat is a purpose-built constellation of satellites designed for wildfire detection and tracking, and will offer high-resolution imagery, updated every 20 minutes, to detect wildfires as small as a classroom. Our team at Google Research — together with Muon Space, Earth Fire Alliance and Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation — are working to launch the first satellite in early 2025, with the full constellation to follow in the coming years. After just a few days of use, I'm enjoying getting to know LinkedIn!
2dHey Google, does calling your AI ‘Quantum AI’ mean it can observe quantum states? Should Schrödinger’s cat be looking for a new job now? 😸⚛️
