Duvetyne is a type of fire retardant fabric made from cotton, characterized by its matte finish and twill weave on one side. It is commonly used in the film and theater industries to block light and reduce reflections due to its non-reflective, light and sound absorbing surface. This makes it ideal for use as blackouts, backdrops, and stage curtains. Additionally, duvetyne is often employed to cover equipment, create negative fill, and construct "blacks" or masking for set and stage management, ensuring that unwanted light does not interfere with the visual aspects of a production. Commando cloth is a heavier fabric, usually made from 100% cotton. It has a brushed matte finish on both sides, providing superior light-absorbing properties compared to duvetyne. Because of its heavier weight and denser weave, commando cloth is more durable and effective at blocking light and sound, making it ideal for more demanding applications such as stage skirting, large drapes, and soundproofing in addition to light control.
