Of course, the MTV VMAs are all about music, but a true beauty junkie knows the real highlight of the evening is the pre-show red carpet. After all, this night brings together some of the most on-point stars out there. Celebrities like Millie Bobby Brown, Kesha, and Katy Perry all made appearances on August 27. From Demi Lovato's halo of perfect beach waves to Lorde's millenial pink eye shadow, we pulled together all of the night's best hair and makeup looks. Read on for some serious beauty inspiration.

Katy Perry

The VMA host wore flamingo-pink eye shadow, dark black liner, and a rosy lip.

Demi Lovato

Demi's voluminous, middle-parted beach waves took center stage, but she did not disappoint in the beauty department either. She countered her nude lip with a smoldering smoky eye.

Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa wore a wet, slicked-back bob, fiery-red mascara, and dramatically winged eyeliner.

Yara Shahidi

Yara's vintage-inspired finger waves were pulled back into a voluminous ponytail. She completed the art deco look with metallic gold eye shadow.

Lorde

Before her performance, Lorde lit up the red carpet with her millenial pink eyeshadow, neutral lip, and dramatic arches. The "Green Light" singer wore her lob in a breezy, wavy half-up.

Nicki Minaj

Nicki's two-toned Rapunzel hair matched her strawberries-and-cream lip.

Pink

As she prepared to pick up her Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, Pink beamed while wearing a long mohawk, soft lip, and layers of earrings.
