Ionic Binary Compounds Nomenclature

Ionic Binary compounds are named by calling its metallic ion first Then followed by its non-metallic anion.
METAL NAME + NON-METALLIC NAME + suffix -IDE
OR

NAMA LOGAM + NAMA NON LOGAM + akhiran - IDA

Example : 1. NaCl
Answer:
METAL NAME + NON-METALLIC ANION NAME

Covalent Binary Compounds Nomenclature

The naming of covalent binary compounds are related with the forming elements and its amount of atoms. The quantty of atoms is written in greek.
Quantit y of Atoms 1 2 3 4 5 Greek Prefix Mono Di Tri Tetra Penta Quantit y of Atoms 6 7 8 9 10 Greek prefix Hexa Hepta Octa Nona Deca

(Greek prefix of the 1st elements, except mono) (1st non metal Element) + (Greek prefix of 2nd element) (2nd non metal element) + suffix -ide

Example:
1. Define the chemical name of N2O3 Answer: N2O3
Element N (Nitrogen) O (Oxygen) Atomic Number 2 (di) 3 (tri)

So, N2O3 has compounds name: Dinitrogen trioxide Dinitrogen trioksida

Example: 2.Define the chemical name of CO2 and CO

Answer : CO2
Element C (Carbon) O (Oxygen) Atomic Number 1 (but not use Mono) 2 (di)

Answer : CO
Element C (Carbon) O (Oxygen) Atomic Number 1 (but not use Mono) 1 (mono)

So CO2 compounds has name : Carbon Dioxide Karbon Dioksida

So CO compounds has name : Carbon Monoxide Karbon Monoksida

Naming for Acid Compound

Nomenclature of Polyatomic Acid Compounds

The nomenclature of polyatomic acid comounds (oxy acid compound) is similar with binary acid that is by defining the polyatomic anion then the H elements (acid). 1. For the element has 1 anion :
Polyatomic anion name + suffix ic + acid

2. For the element has 2 anion :

Polyatomic anion name + suffix -ous / -ic + acid

Nomenclature of Polyatomic Acid Compounds
