Seeds Date: November 17, 2011 Class Length: 63 minutes (2:16-3:19) Alberta Program of Studies Outcomes General 1-11 Describe some common living things, and identify needs of those living things. Learning Outcome Specific Students will: Learning 7. Identify the requirements of plants to maintain life; i.e., air, light, suitable Outcome temperature, water, growing medium, space; and recognize that we must provide these for plants in our care. 8. Identify ways that land plants depend on soil. Learning Objectives Students will: 1. Understand that seeds are the beginning stage of the plant life cycle 2. Identify differences amongst seeds including sizes and how they move 3. Distinguish between seeds that can be eaten and seeds that should only be planted.

What is a seed? What grows from a seed? Where do seeds come from? Some are planted in fall, some in autumn.

Respond to 1,2,3 Eyes on Me by being quiet and listening to teacher Body Activity One: Video Clip Sesame Street Mrs. Obama Plants a Seed What are they doing in this clip? Why are they doing this? What does big bird eat? Is it the same thing they are planting? Why or why not? Activity Two: Video Clip Sesame Street Plants How do you seeds move? Why do they have to do this? Why must they stick to people? What would be examples of each? Activity Three: Seeds Transition to Story Corner Come and see the seeds, feel them. After done, wash hands with sanitizer. When at story corner: How was each seed different? Why? Activity Four: Read Isabellas Gardern Reading a book previously picked out by my TA. Did the garden change? Why? How did the plants grow?
