Thermodynamics P4-10 Three kilograms of air are at an initial state of 100 kPa, 300K.

The air is then compressed polytropically with n = 2.56, to a final pressure of 500 kPa. Assuming constant specific heats, determine the change in entropy using the three ideal gas equations.

Force
mg := 3kg n := 2.56 p1 := 100kPa p2 := 500kPa T 1 := 300K

Air

cp := 0.24 ft lbf lb R

Air 100 kPa 300 deg K

Given

p1 V1 = mg R g T 1

p2 V2 = mg R g T 2 p1

T2 p2 S cp ln - R g ln = T1 p1 mg
Guess values:
-1 kJ K S T2 K := V1 m3 V2 m3

V2 = p2 V 1

S T2 := Find S , T , V , V ( 2 1 2) V1 V 2
This is the change in entropy for the compressed air.
