Residence Life Behavioral and Policy Expectations

As a student at The University of Memphis, you have many rights and


responsibilities. One of those responsibilities is to be familiar with standards set for
your personal conduct as outlined in the Code of Student Conduct and the
Residence Hall Information Brochure. Below are just SOME of the policies you are
expected to know. We believe that knowing and understanding these policies will
help you to enter into a more effective roommate agreement.
Prohibited on all University-controlled property (includes empty
alcohol containers and drug paraphernalia)
Minimum Recommended Sanctions: Alcohol

Visitation

Opposite sex visitation is from noon until Midnight, Sunday


through Thursday and from noon until 2 AM on Friday and
Saturday.

Overnight
Guests

Overnight guests of the same sex are permitted for a maximum of 3


nights per semester with roommate approval. Guests must be
registered with the AAC.

Noise

Quiet hours are from 10 PM until 10AM. Noise which can be


heard outside your room is not allowed. Courtesy hours are 24
hours a day.

Cleanliness/Saf
ety
Issues

Trash must be taken to the dumpsters outside. An acceptable


level of cleanliness must be maintained in your room, in shared
bathrooms, and in common areas. Hazardous cooking
appliances (such as toasters & hot plates), candles and incense
are not allowed.

Aggressive
Behavior

Any aggressive behavior, verbal or physical, will not be tolerated


in the residence halls or on campus. If found to be involved in
aggressive behavior, severe disciplinary action will take place,

which could include expulsion from the residence halls or the


university.

Theft

Theft of any kind, no matter the value, will not be tolerated, and
will be reported to Police Services. If found guilty, Residence
Life and Police Services will take severe disciplinary action which
may result in expulsion from residence halls in addition to legal
action.

Having a positive roommate relationship can be achieved through communication, cooperation, and compromise. With your
RAs assistance, the process of completing this formgetting to know one another better, discussing expectations for your living
arrangement, and setting some ground ruleswill help make your experience of living in a residence hall more enjoyable and
more valuable. Mark the option(s) that matches your agreement. If none of the options meet your needs, write your own in the
Other/Comments box.

We have read the accompanying Behavior and Policy statement, and in accordance with its principles, we agree to the above.
We have made an agreement to have open communication and to deal with any conflicts that arise in a manner of
mutual respect. If we encounter a problem which we are unable to work out between ourselves, we agree to consult our RA.
Additionally, we agree that, with mutual consent, these guidelines may be adapted if necessary and any changes documented.
We understand that it is our responsibility as individuals to read The University of Memphis Student Code of Conduct and The
Department of Residence Life Brochure in their entirety.
