BEAL CITY Beal City is
a tough place to win.
Pine River boys coach Brian Goodenow knows this. In
fact, the Bucks coach said
anytime you go to Beal City
and get a win, it is a big win.
On Thursday, Pine River got
that big win when the Bucks
came from behind to score a
68-62 win.
We are always happy
with a W even if we don't
technically play a great
game, he said. They were

MARION Manton boys
basketball coach Ryan Hiller knows what it feels like
to be on the wrong end of a
lopsided loss.
Not too long ago, the Rangers were struggling and it
was Hiller and Manton that
were losing games by double digits. On Thursday, the
Rangers blasted Marion, 6318.

Michigan State coach Tom

nights your team is awfully

and rolled
to a 71-51 win on Thursday
night in a game that was
postponed earlier in the
week by the threat of a blizzard in New Jersey.
"Teams are winning by 30
and then losing by 20," Izzo
said. "It's frustrating I bet
for fans, media and coaches.
As far as we're concerned,
I thought there were some
bright spots and we got back
to our roots. We defended
well, we rebounded well
and we got on the fast break
well."
Brenden Dawson led the
way for the Spartans with
17 points and 11 rebounds,
Bryn Forbers added 18, and
both had points in the 20-2
run to start the second half
that blew the game open.
"In the first half we've
been talking about us coming out with energy at the
beginning of the game,"
Dawson said. "That's what
we've been struggling with.
In the second half we just
came out with a lot more energy."

MESICK Good defensive led to
the Mesick girls basketball team
beating Forest Area Thursday, 4917
Mesick coach Dave Shutler said
Thursday's game was likely his
team's best defensive performance
of the season and the Bulldogs
played with a lot of energy resulting in a lot of Forest Area turnovers.
We finally played a complete
game, he said.
Mesick led 10-4 after the first
quarter and expanded that to 217 by the half. By the start of the
fourth quarter, Mesick had the
game in hand and led 38-12.
Morgan Riojas paced the Bulldogs with 16 points and 18 rebounds while Abby Trowbridge
had nine points and nine boards.
Lexi Andrews rounded out the Mesick scorers with seven points and
eight rebounds.
Mesick travels to Frankfort
Tuesday.
The Mesick JV also beat Forest
Area, 36-28. Abby Riffle paced the
Bulldogs with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
