Melgarejo Session: September 14, 2013 Block: EN ID # 11341432 Last Weeks Reflection Paper
Last week was the first time we met in our National
Service Training program course. We have chosen to be assigned in the Civil Welfare Training Service for different reasons. I myself did not choose the Reserve Officer Training Corps because it might hinder my physical and mental ability in focusing with my academic subjects. There were a lot fun and interesting games that we performed last week early on in order to acquaint ourselves further with our professor. Our real start with our subject though started when we discussed about poverty in the Philippines and in the world. The first real subject that we tackled was poverty. Poverty has been a long time social problem in the Philippines and in many parts of the world. It has become a huge problem that many studies and efforts are being done in order to reduce poverty. I myself tackled how to solve poverty in the Philippines in my problem solution essay and also with an online community. Actually, it is quite easy to draw plans on how to solve poverty but implementing it is the hardest task. Although I think our discussion ended a bit too
soon last week, I hope that we may be able to actually do at
least a little in the following meetings in order to help solve poverty specifically in the Philippines. Another subtopic on poverty that we discussed was the extreme poverty and hunger experienced by Africa just a number of years. There was a picture of a very malnourished and nearly dying child crawling on the soil while not being aware that a vulture was already waiting for him from a distance. I do want to avoid that topic since it is extremely disturbing and there are other people that can handle that and can do something for that. On top of this essay, there is a painting that portrays the Last Supper of Christ with real and actual street children. We discussed about how the painter helped these children by making his painting popular and in turn also making the children popular wherein then they were given financial help by people that wanted to help. Generally, last week was an introduction to what we will be doing for our whole stay in the CWTS component of the NSTP. It can be called as an eye opener some or for the likes of me, an opportunity to serve the country. I truly hope that our works, efforts and all of what we will about to learn will help our country, the Philippines for a brighter and greater future ahead.
