Pelvis
 Consists of :

Bones +Muscles+Fascia+Ligaments+Joints

 Contents :

Nerves + Blood vessels +Lymphatic vessels +Pelvic organs

 Bones of Pelvis

2 Hip bones + Sacrum + Coccyx

-Each hip bone consists of 3 bones(Ilium+Ischium+Pubis) unite together at

(Acetabulum) which is incomplete circle and has acetabular notch

-Between pubis anteriorly & ischium posteriorly, there is a big gap(opening)

called ( Obturator foramen )

Features of Ilium: Iliac crest—Anterior superior iliac spine—Anterior inferior iliac spine—Posterior
sup.iliac spine—Post.inf.iliac spine—Geater sciatic notch

Med.Surface:Iliac fossa—Iliac tuberosity—Auricular surface—Arcuate line

Lat.surface:Gluteal surface has 3 lines (Post—Ant --Inf )

Features of Ischium: Body—Inf.ramus—Ischial spine—Lesser sciatic notch—Ischial tuberosity

Features of Pubis :Body—Sup.ramus—Inf.ramus –Pubic crest—Pubic tubercle—Ileopectineal line

Sacrum

 It is triangular bone has base which lies superiorly & apex lies inferiorly
 It consists of 5 sacral vertebra fused together
 Vertebral foramen of all 5 sacral vertebra form (Sacral canal)
 Anterior & posterior surfaces of sacrum has 4 foramina called anterior & posterior sacral
foramen
 The upper & anterior part of sacrum is called (Promontary of sacrum)
 Sacrum articulates laterally with iliac bone to form (Sacroiliac joint)
 Sacrum articulates superiorly with lumbar vertebra to form (lumbosacral joint)

Posterior surface of sacrum

7

Coccyx

 consists of 4 vertebrae fused together to form triangular bone which articulates with lower
end of sacrum

 Coccygeal vertebrae consists of bodies only

 Except the 1st vertebra has transverse processes & cornua

8

 Pelvis is divided into 2 parts(greater & lesser pelvis) by pelvic brim

 Above pelvic brim is greater pelvis (False pelvis)

 Below pelvic brim is lesser pelvis (True pelvis)

 Pelvic brim from behind forward consists of

Promontary of sacrum—Arcuate line—Ileopectineal line—Symphysis pubis

True pelvis is very important in obstetric and it has outlet &inlet

Pubic arch

The space between outlet & inlet is called ( pelvic cavity)
