Candoral ®

(Miconazole 2 % w/w)

What is Candoral?

Candoral oral gel is a preparation of miconazole 2 % w/w which is an imidazole

antifungal agent. Miconazole also has some antibacterial action and kills certain
bacteria that may also be present in the infection.

What is Oral Candidiasis?

It is caused by the overgrowth of the yeast candida albicans. Most people

naturally have candida in their mouths and digestive tracts. The amount of
candida in a person's body is controlled by a healthy immune system and some
"good" bacteria. If the immune system is weakened (due to an illness or
medicines like chemotherapy), the candida can overgrow and lead to oral
candidiasis.

Oral candidiasis is often known as thrush because it’s white spots resemble the
breast of the bird with the same name.
