IEC 61850-A NEW PROTOCOL FOR SUBSTATION AUTOMATION,INTEGRATION AND COMMUNICATION done at CSIO, CSIR, Chennai. International Electro Technical Commission has developed a new global standard for communication in power station. Electrical Utilities are facing problem of interoperability among IEDs supplied from different companies during the expansion of existing substation. Using IEC61850 this problem can be eliminated to an extent. This standard has been studied and a part of it been implemented in the IEDs used in the organization.
