VISION PENSACOLA HAS EMERGED ON THE RADAR AS A DIVERSE GROUP OF PROFESSIONALS SPEAKING IN ONE VOICE FOR PENSACOLA! I will tell you I've been in dozens of meetings with FDOT around the state and that was probably the best reception we could have expected. I want to thank everyone for their assistance and perseverance in not only submitting ideas, but pressuring local politicians, your bosses, associated organizations, friends to bring the leaders to the table and bring our ideas in front of the top leaders from FDOT and the City of Pensacola. It's taken over 8 months since we decided to tackle this project at that FDOT public meeting at the Pensacola Civic Center and we have come a long way towards organizing ourselves and influencing others. WELL DONE. After patting yourselves on the back, my trip this weekend showed me how quickly items are moving in the background and we need to be more vigilant than ever pushing for a better city, urbanism, and regional cooperation. We have arrived in the city, but we can not live in a vacuum as if the counties around us are not competing for the same jobs, residents, retail, industries, and indirectly influence the health of our city. I have listed a group of projects I heard over the weekend as top rated for BP funds and interests of others:

1. An Outer Loop Interstate from HWY 87 to East Milton to Cantonment to Beulah = will suck the life out of the City of Pensacola! Mass exodus to suburbs. 2. DPZ was fired as consultant for Perdido Key because the county wants a 4 lane typical divided highway = condo canyon Orange Beach, but worse yet is they WILL connect this road to Blue Angel Parkway in the future and complete the "Outer Loop" 3. Gulf Power has jumped on board to incentivize these "Industrial Ready to Build Sites" = Huge swaths of forests, farmland, and sprawl will follow near the Outer Loop. We must identify, clean up, and make available sites within the city or inner county available and competitive (i.e Barrancas/Bayou Chico working waterfront industrial, i.e. Bayou Blvd/ I-110/ Palafox/ Pace Blvd industrial core cleanup area and reuse) 4. The City and County are not working together = the county MUST hear loud and clear that a LARGE PIECE OF ITS TAX BASE IS THE CITY! 5. There is interest and money out there for Greenshores Projects from Bayou Texar inlet west to Bayou Grande inlet = organize and go get it!!!

These are a few of the headlines you're not hearing on pnj.com. Our goal is to tackle each of these one by one. We have the core Vision Group on this list serve. We need to each keep our ears and eyes open, keep in contact with the core and recruit friends, family, organizations to partner and attend future public meetings planting the seeds that WILL germinate. This was the tip of the iceberg and the iceberg is still floating out there in the bay. Keep track of it, it can go off course quickly, but it's on radar. We started the same type groups in Miami 3-5 years ago and I invite you to go see www.transitmiami.com, www.curbedmiami.com, www.dawntown.org, as a few examples. The second item which we also have in Pensacola is getting core members into appointed positions in cities, counties, CRAs, etc... This really shows you the system we are working in and you have to attack cancer from the inside with chemotherapy! Great job, continue the work... Brian & Vision Team, I trust today's meeting with DOT went well and District 3 Secretary Barfield was receptive to the much improved conceptual design of the approach and roundabout. Great meeting with you last night, Ben. Alan Gray, AICP C. 850-510-0596 [email protected]
