Introit Call to worship

A Call to Worship from Psalm 67

Holy are you, O God of grace and mercy. May all the nations praise you, O God. May all the nations of the earth joyfully sing because Gods justice is supreme! May the love that lights up the face of God shine with favour upon us and bless us; teaching us Gods way of living and loving so that we may witness to that love and grace. We gather to worship our wise and holy God. We are in awe and revere you for your saving works. We come together to seek your blessing, O God. Praise be to our generous and just God. Amen.
510 Jesus calls us here to meet him 1 Jesus calls us here to meet him as, through word and song and prayer, we affirm Gods promised presence where his people live and care. Praise the God who keeps his promise ; praise the Son who calls us friends ; praise the Spirit who, among us, to our hopes and fears attends. 2 Jesus calls us to confess him Word of life and Lord of all, sharer of our flesh and frailness, saving all who fail or fall. Tell his holy human story ; tell his tales that all may hear ; tell the world that Christ in glory came to earth to meet us here.
John L. Bell (b. 1949) and Graham Maule (b. 1958)

Jesus calls us to each other, vastly different though we are ; creed and colour, class and gender neither limit nor debar. Join the hand of friend and stranger ; join the hands of age and youth ; join the faithful and the doubter in their common search for truth. Jesus calls us to his table rooted firm in time and space, where the Church in earth and heaven a common meeting place. Share the bread and wine, his body ; share the love of which we sing ; share the feast for saints and sinners hosted by our Lord and King.

Verse 4 may be omitted when there is no celebration of Holy Communion.

Prayer

Family talk 356 Meekness and majesty 1 Meekness and majesty, manhood and deity, in perfect harmony the man who is God : Lord of eternity, dwells in humanity, kneels in humility and washes our feet. Oh, what a mystery meekness and majesty : bow down and worship, for this is your God, this is your God ! 2 Fathers pure radiance, perfect in innocence, yet learns obedience to death on a cross : suffering to give us life, conquering through sacrifice and, as they crucify, prays, Father forgive. 3 Wisdom unsearchable, God the invisible, love indestructible in frailty appears : Lord of infinity, stooping so tenderly, lifts our humanity to the heights of his throne.
Graham Kendrick (b. 1950)

Reading Matthew 5 :3 , psalm 37 1-11 622 We sing a love that sets all people free 1 We sing a love that sets all people free, that blows like wind, that burns like scorching flame, enfolds like earth, springs up like water clear : come, living love, live in our hearts today. 2 We sing a love that seeks anothers good, that longs to serve and not to count the cost, a love that, yielding, finds itself made new : come, caring love, live in our hearts today. 3 We sing a love, unflinching, unafraid to be itself, despite anothers wrath, a love that stands alone and undismayed : come, strengthening love, live in our hearts today. 4 We sing a love, that, wandering, will not rest until it finds its way, its home, its source, through joy and sadness pressing on refreshed : come, pilgrim love, live in our hearts today. 5 We sing a burning, fiery, Holy Ghost that seeks out shades of ancient bitterness, transfiguring these, as Christ in every heart : come joyful love, live in our hearts today.
June Boyce-Tillman (b. 1943)

Sermon 513 Courage, brother! do not stumble (collection of offering) 1 Courage, brother ! do not stumble, though your path be dark as night ; theres a star to guide the humble : trust in God, and do the right. Let the road be rough and dreary, and its end far out of sight ;

foot it bravely ; strong or weary, * trust in God, and do the right. Perish policy and cunning, perish all that fears the light ! Whether losing, whether winning, trust in God, and do the right. Some will hate you, some will love you, some will flatter, some will slight ; heed them not, and look above you : trust in God, and do the right. Simple rule and safest guiding, inward peace and inward might, star upon our path abiding, trust in God and do the right. Courage, sister ! do not stumble, though your path be dark as night ; theres a star to guide the humble : trust in God, and do the right.
* The words trust in God are sung three times.

97 O God, you search me and you know me

PSALM 139

O God, you search me and you know me. All my thoughts lie open to your gaze. When I walk or lie down you are before me : ever the maker and keeper of my days. You know my resting and my rising. You discern my purpose from afar, and with love everlasting you besiege me : in every moment of life or death, you are. Before a word is on my tongue, Lord, you have known its meaning through and through. You are with me beyond my understanding : God of my present, my past and future, too. Although your Spirit is upon me, still I search for shelter from your light. There is nowhere on earth I can escape you : even the darkness is radiant in your sight. For you created me and shaped me, gave me life within my mothers womb. For the wonder of who I am, I praise you : safe in your hands, all creation is made new.
