Title of Unit: Measurements School: Pili national High School Name of Subject Teachers: 1.

Balidoy, Junelyn

Grade/Year level: First year high school Location: Lapaz, Pili, Camarines Sur

2. Balmedina, Jennica Maica 3. Lompero, Reinalyn Quarter 1: MEASUREMENTS Topic: MEASUREMENTS STAGE 1: DESIRED RESULTS CONTENT STANDARD The learner demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of measurement UNDERSTANDING Students will understand: that there are different types of measurements prefixes in the metric system: kilo, hecto, deci, centi, milli the concept of lengths, capacity, mass, perimeter and circumference, time and temperature ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS How essential are measurements in our real life situations? What is the relation of measurement to our daily life situation? KNOWLEDGE Students will know: the development of measurement how to convert one unit to another using metric system or English system how to measure lengths Time Frame: 10 days

how to measure capacity or volume how to measure mass how to measure perimeter and circumference how to measure are how to measure time and temperature SKILLS Students will be able to: master the conversion of units differentiate the types of measurements measure lengths, volume, mass, perimeter etc. STAGE 2: ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE PERFORMANCE TASK DESCRIPTION GOAL Be familiar of the different type of measurement and apply it to real life situation ROLE To discuss and present examples to better understand the concept of the topics AUDIENCE SITUATION The students First, define measurement, discuss concepts about measurements; Provide problems involving measurements PRODUCT/PERFORMANCE Provide problems and guide the audience on how to solve it OTHER EVIDENCES Board works, seatwoorks and assignments

STANDARDS CRITERIA The students can answer the problems being given by the teachers and can explain it clearer by themselves The students can answer but cannot explain it well The students can solve but takes a long period of time and needs help The students understands the problem but dont know what to do The students cannot understand the problem which leads to asking rather than solving it by themselves POOR 1 FAIR 2 SATISFACTORY GOOD 4 3 EXCELLENT 5 DESCRIPTIVE RATING NUMERICAL RATING

STAGE 3: LEARNING PLAN TEACHING-LEARNING SEQUENCE The audiences are expected to understand the following subtopics: 1. different kinds of measurements used on ancient times by the Egyptians 2. to find the different measures of different polygons 3. how to convert unit of area, volume and mass to another unit of measure 4. how to find the surface area of space figures 5. the unit measure that will be used after solving a specific measurement, like square units for area

6. various terminologies that is used in getting the measure of a polygon, space figures and the like (e.g. slant height, lateral area) I.EXPLORE In this part, students have some activities or pre-activities or game/group work to understand the concept of measurement by their own. And later explain to them the question, how essential is the measurement in real life situations? Activity 1 a. Present some instruments of measurement to the students like ruler measuring cups beaker thermometer weighing scale

b. Give an item to be measured and let them choose the instrument to be used. While doing the activity the students can explore by themselves and be able to learn and relate it to real life situations II. FIRM-UP These are the activities that the learner will have to undergo in order for them to understand more about measurements. And these activities will help them relate the lesson in real life situations Activity 2 A. Using the measurement in ancient times measure the following: a. the length and the width of your Math book b. the length of your classroom using your foot length Activity 3 A. Using devices and tools in measurement measure the same object in Activity 2. B. Let the students have some generalization on what they learn in their activity C. compare the system of measurement of the ancient from the modern day D. Ask them the question How essential is measurement in real life situations?

III. DEEPEN Give the students some more exercises for them to understand more the lesson and express all his learning. A. Present to the learners the different formulas on finding the area, perimeter, volume. mass and the like. B. let them know how the formula has been formed Now that they know the formula let them have some activities Activity 4 1. Measure the area of your book 2. Measure the surface area of your classroom 3. the volume of a coca-cola in can IV. TRANSFER Applications of the learners understanding on pattern searching are demonstrated through culminating activities that reflect meaningful and relevant problems/situation. Activity 5 A. Group the students B. Give each group different objects to be measured and let them compute its perimeter, area, volume, surface area etc. C. After they are finished let them exchange to other groups their objects and compute again its area, volume etc. D. Discuss the answers on the class
