Answer the following Question as an essay. [Not more than 1000 words]
Question:
Now that Elections are over and we have a new government, try to analyze the reasons as to
why Congress lost the battle.
Failure of Congress Party in 2014 states election
INTRODUCTION - There were lots of Reasons for failure of congress party in
states election 2014. Congress party gain a mere 44 seats in the 543-seat
parliament - its worst performance ever - and a key issue that has emerged
within subsequent party discussions is the role of the Gandhi dynasty in its
fortunes. The Gandhis have ruled India for all but 13 years since
Independence in 1947 and the party has become completely dependent on
a family that has produced three prime ministers.
Failure of Brand Rahul. He has not displayed the requisite qualities to lead
the party or connect with the electorate. His communication skills remain
below par. Although he has been in politics for 10 years, he has proved to
be a poor learner.
Rahul Gandhi's inadequacies stood out in sharp contrast to his mother
Sonia Gandhi's strengths.
The Congress ran a flawed election campaign. In contrast to the BJP's
simple slogan 'Ab ki Baar, Modi Sarkar' that resonated immediately with
the public, the Congress message 'Har haath shakti, Har haath tarakki'
failed to make an impact.
As the campaign progressed, the Congress changed tack and started
attacking Modi for his divisive agenda and communal leanings. But it was
too late as Modi had successfully projected himself as a strong and decisive
leader who alone had the capability to pull the country out of the current
mess.
Weak state leadership also proved to be the Congress party's undoing.
Riven by internal dissensions, the party organisation is in a mess in most
states while its leaders enjoy little or no autonomy.
The Congress paid the price for the UPA government's failures. While there
is no doubt that the Congress ran a confused campaign, led by an
uninspiring leader, it is also true that the corruption scandals, which
surfaced during the UPA regime and the government's inability to control
inflation and tackle the economic slowdown, contributed in a large
measure in discrediting the Congress.
Lack of consensus on many potentially popular Congress policies such as
tribal rights, forestry, human rights and the environment. "Team Rahul" is
believed to have come in the way of more than 100 industrial projects.
Congress' achievements have also come back to bite them - such as passing
the Right to Information (RTI) Act, which civil liberties activists and
journalists then used to snare the government in multi-billion dollar
corruption scandals, enabling the anti-corruption Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to
damage its credibility.
Sources within the party agree that all the decisions about running the
campaign, such as its advertising strategy, were decided by the Rahul
Gandhi camp, which lacked organizational experience
Reasons For Failure.
1. Historical corruption.
2. Inefficient leadership by Rahul Gandhi.
3. Wrong selection of candidates by Rahul Gandhi, Deserting the senior,
honest, able and talented leadership by Rahul Gandhi,
4. Their was a Callous and proud attitude of leaders surrounding Rahul
Gandhi.
5. Polarization of Election in big states
6. Personal Attack on Narendra Modi.
7. Large numbers of honest leaders joined BJP returning Congress Ticket,
8. Lack of coordination and cooperation with Media.
9. Mismanagement of entire election.
