Welcome
EAGE Presidents welcome
On behalf of EAGE, I am delighted to welcome you
to Madrid for the 77th EAGE Annual Conference
& Exhibition. This important gathering of todays
leading specialists, innovators and doers in the
geoscience and engineering disciplines builds on
our long history of successful conferences since
the foundation of our Association in 1951.
By choosing the theme Earth Science for Energy
and Environment we want to demonstrate that our conference comprising a wide range of papers and posters, workshops and field trips,
exhibits and novel technologies represents the contributions of multidisciplinary geoscientists to society. We are focused both on meeting
the global needs for energy and on sustainable use of the earths many
resources. At EAGE, scientists and innovators will share their expert
knowledge and insights into a wide range of earth resource questions.
Informed debate and smart ideas should be our hall mark.
I am especially pleased that 2015 marks a resumption of our association with the Society of Petroleum Engineers EUROPEC conference. This
means that engineers and geoscientists can both dig deep into their
special areas of interest and at the same time challenge each other in
multi-disciplinary thinking and debate.
The opening plenary session and the executive sessions will address key
issues for today, setting pointers and giving a direction to our conference. In particular, the Executive Sessions on Boldness versus Risk in
Exploration and on Unconventional Regulations promise to be conference highlights.
EAGE has been working hard to make sure we have a programme which
is focused around the up and coming generation students and young
professionals. The student programme goes from strength to strength,
and our use of e-posters has been especially successful in helping young
enthusiasts share their new ideas. We have also been working hard
to build new special interest groups, so make sure you dont miss the
special sessions for Young Professionals and Women in Geoscience and
Engineering.
Madrid is a great cultural capital, and our social programme and special conference evening will be a great occasion for networking, meeting
old friends, and engaging in debate. Finally, I want to thank our Local
Advisory Committee, EAGE office staff and the many members who volunteer for the many committees, technical sessions and programmes
that make this gathering possible. EAGE is indebted to you for making
this Conference and Exhibition a big success.
Welcome to our 2015 Conference & Exhibition!

EAGE Forum on Non-technical Risk in the Upstream Business
This year for the EAGE Forum we are going to focus the discussion on
two main trends, Boldness vs Risk in Exploration and Unconventional
Regulations where Earth Science and Environment are put together to
work. As new technical barriers are broken, new geological ideas are
put to test. Nowadays, ultra deep water prospects are now reachable
and very costly as well. Geoscientists have to be brave enough to overcome not just the geological challenges but also the financial risks that
companies are exposed to. They have also be very conscious when proposing new large-scale operation projects such as the unconventionals.
Sustainability, Safety and Environment are the main concerns and cannot
be ruled out of the equation.

About Madrid
The Spanish capital is in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula, 622 metres
above sea level. It is the third largest city in the European Union and,
thanks to Barajas Airport, it is an important transportation hub with
Latin America. Located between the Guadarrama Mountain Range and
Vega del Tajo, Madrid has a wealthy natural heritage. The number of
trees that line the avenues and gardens clean the air and generate the
ideal atmosphere for walking, sports or leisure. El Retiro, La Casa de
Campo and El Monte de El Pardo are a few of the large parks and forests located within the city.
Situated in the heart of Madrid, the Paseo del Prado is home to three
of the most comprehensive painting museums in the world; the Reina
Sofa National Museum Art Centre, with Picassos Guernica, the Thyssen
Bornemisza Museum, which presents an overview of art history and the
Prado Museum, with artworks by Goya and Velzquez. All three also
host interesting temporary exhibitions. All in all a great destination with
lots of history, culture and variety to host our 77th EAGE Conference &
Exhibition 2015!

Workshop summary
4D seismic is recognised as crucial for the development of many hydrocarbon fields across the world. Its uses are wide-ranging; from qualitative anomaly mapping to quantitative geomechanical and reservoir
model updating. This workshop will focus on new and innovative ways to
estimate, interpret and exploit 4D signals.
Workshop 3
Geological Disposal of Radioactive Waste
Technical and Societal Challenges
Workshop summary
Companys eyes turn again toward the mountain belts after a succession
of disappointing wells. This workshop will aim at reviewing foreseeable
improvements in either seismic or alternatives methods, as well as to
assess whether recent results in geological R&D have positive impacts
on HC exploration.
Workshop 5
Wave-Equation-Based Migration Velocity Analysis
Convenors:
Workshop summary
In the field of imaging, new advances are being made regarding superresolution imaging of faults via diffractions, imaging using surface and
internal multiples and imaging in strongly scattering media. For this
workshop we solicit papers that report on state-of-the-art imaging
technologies and explore future directions.
The main source for nuclear waste in Europe is the operation of nuclear
reactors. The international community considers geological disposal as
the most appropriate solution for the long-term management of longlived radioactive waste. This workshop will discuss on-going projects and
recent developments on geological disposal.
Workshop 7
Workshop 10
Convenors:
Workshop summary
Workshop summary
It is becoming increasingly clear that noticeable seismicity can be induced by pressure changes in the reservoir (pressure depletion, injection,
hydraulic fracturing). This EAGE workshop is aimed at improving the understanding of production and injection induced seismicity in order to be
able to assess, minimise and mitigate associated risks.
Workshop 8
Workshop 11

Workshop summary
Convenors:
T. Blanchard (Total E&P)
N. Favretto-Cristini (CNRS Marseille)
D. Rappin (Total E&P)
B. Ursin (Norwegian University of Science and
Technology)
Workshop summary
Broadband data offer better ground for the study of attenuation than
conventional seismic situations. Insufficient frequency bandwidth
generally results in strong ambiguity between frequency-dependent
and frequency-independent attenuation, leading to ambiguous results via ad-hoc methods. The broadband situation reducing ambiguity opens the way for more accurate estimation and high-fidelity
compensation.

M. Behm (OMV)
N. El Allouche (Schlumberger)
M. Hertrich (Nagra)
E. Manukyan (ETH Zurich)
E. Muyzert (Schlumberger)
C. Schmelzbach (ETH Zurich)
Workshop summary
This workshop will review recent technological and methodological advances in near-surface characterisation and model building for improved
exploration-seismic imaging and inversion and shallow hazard detection.
The potential benefits, applications and limitations of seismic and nonseismic methods will be addressed as well as different recording environments (karst, desert, glacial sediments, seabed).
Workshop 12
Interpreting the Uncertain Seismic Image
Convenors:
Workshop summary
Seismic data used for interpretation are obtained after making many
choices in parameters for acquisition and processing. These are nonunique processes and a different choice of parameters results in a different subsurface image. This workshop aims at unravelling the different
sources of uncertainty and their effects on interpretation.

Architecture and Facies Hetereogeneities at Reservoir Scale of
Carbonate Ramp The Jurassic of Albaracin
Convenors:
H. Gonzalez (Repsol)
J.L. Rubino (Total SA)
J.I. Soto (Granada University)
G. Tari (OMV Vienna)
Workshop summary
The fieldtrip will examine the facies and sequence distribution of three
Jurassic carbonate ramps, superbly exposed in the Sierra de Albarracn.
The setting and evolution of different types of coral- and siliceous
sponge-microbial build-ups will be also analysed. These Iberian ramps
share similarities with the Arab and Smackover carbonate reservoirs and
represent valuable outcrop analogues.

Workshop summary
The field of seismic interferometry has progressed swiftly over the past
decade. This workshop shows and discusses the recent innovations in
seismic interferometry including new imaging methods and novel
approaches for characterisation and monitoring of the subsurface.
The Cenozoic Madrid basin infilling is closely related to the tectonic evolution of the Central System and the Iberian Chain. Eight main depositional sequences are recognised from the Paleogene, where the latter
four were deposited in a continental environment. Structural and sediment logical analysis allows to reconstruct a complex evolutionary history with strong changes both in depocentres, sedimentary environments
and sources provenance.

Methods of payment
Please note that offline registration (with the PDF form) is subject to an
additional charge of 10.
Registration forms will not be accepted unless accompanied by full payment
(credit card authorization, copy of bank transfer). Should you apply for the
members fee, please state your EAGE, EAOG or SPE membership number.
For group bookings, please contact the EAGE registration department at
[email protected] for further guidance and assistance. After receipt of
registration and payment, delegates will receive a confirmation by e-mail

badge on-site. For members of the EAGE the confirmation letter is also
available for download in My EAGE (login). EAGE members with registration can also use their 2015 membership card to pick up their badge.
