Common Platform in Tarnaka:


A meeting was held on 14-11-2009 with contesting candidates for Corporator and residents
of Tarnaka at Nagarjuna Nagar Community Hall.
The objective of this meeting is to provide an opportunity to the candidates contesting from
various parties to present themselves and to make the voters aware of their worth before they
choose the right candidate.
Sri. D.S.N.Murthy, Secretary, SCOTRWA in his welcome address emphasized the need
and importance of Resident Welfare Associations in choosing right candidate and work together in
getting better civic facilities for the residents. He also listed out of various civic problems faced by
Tarnaka residents for the information of contesting candidates.
Dr.Rao Chelikani, President, SCOTRWA explained the role of Resident Welfare
Associations in the Corporation elections and also the duties and responsibilities of the contesting
candidates.
Contesting Candidates were first given an opportunity to present themselves and their plans
to improve civic facilities. There after, residents raised various questions on problems faced by
residents for which the contesting candidates were asked to explain as to how they will deal with
such problems. Mrs. M.Geetha.(TDP), Banda Karthika Reddy (Congress), Mrs.S.Lakshmi(BJP),
Mrs.G.Subbamma (Loksatta), Mrs.P.Neeraja (PRP), Bandari Latha (Independent), Mrs.Nirmala
Kondapalli(Independent), Mrs.Gayathri (Independent), Mrs.KrishnaVeni (MIM) have participated
in the Common Platform and patiently heard the civic problems and assured to help in solving the
problems with the cooperation of Resident Welfare Associations. More than 300 residents attended
and participated in the programme.
Prof..V.Yoga Jyothsna and Prof. Kasturi Laxmi have moderated he whole programme.
They also advised the residents to use their discretion in exercising their vote. Sri. J.V.Sarma,
I.F.S. (Rtd.) from the Forum for Good Governance was the observer.

Role of RWAs in the GHMC Elections


Proceedings of the Special Meeting of representatives of all constituent resident welfare
associations, held on Tuesday 10-11-2009 at 10.a.m. Venue: Press Club Basheerbagh-Hyderabad.
Principal office bearers of RWAs from all areas e.g. Malkajgiri, L.B.Nagar, Alwal, Kukatpally,
Madhura Nagar, Yellareddyguda, Mehdipatnam, Tarnaka etc. have attended.
Dr.Rao Chelikani, in his introductory speech while informing the members about the
seriousness of the forth coming elections of G.H.M.C, for Corporators, stressed the need to make
all efforts to get the proper candidates elected by selecting the best among the contestants. The
general Secretary, Sri.G.Satyanarayana apprised the members, that from the date of inception of U-
FERWAS, continuous efforts are being made, necessary representations were made to various
authorities for the recognition and for achieving proper rights and privileges to the RWAs,
particularly in the light and spirit of 74th amendment to the constitution of India. He stated that
during these couple of years, considerable progress has been achieved. The G.H.M.C.
Commissioners and Special Officers namely Dr.C.V.S.K.Sarma, I.A.S., and Sri.S.P.Singh, I.A.S,
have convened a number of official meetings with the representatives of U-FERWAS, involving
all Additional Commissioners, Zonal Commissioners and Heads of Departments and also
promptly issued circulars and exhaustive proceedings with specific directions to the Zonal
Commissioners to promptly hold meetings with the respective RWAs regularly, for very 2 months
with the DMC, for every 3 months with Zonal Commissioners and for every 6 months with the
Commissioners. (Orders no.2332/AC(H&S) GHMC/07 OF 13-8-07).
Proceedings of meeting held on 28-1-09 can be treated as historic. Similarly, the
continuous representations and persuasions made before the Committee appointed for the
Amendments to the Municipal Act of 1955 also yielded results and under 4(2)(i) it has been
incorporated, that in the formation of ward committees in all the 150 wards, one out of 4 and 2 out
of 6 members to be nominated from the category of Registered R.WA.s. This amendment is also
historic. As regards the nominations to Area Sabhas from the R.W.As efforts are continued. As
regards the GHMC elections he emphasized the need to be very cautious, vigilant, and not to leave
any stone unturned in getting the proper candidates elected.
The Executive V.P. Sri.T.Satyanarayana cautioned about various criminals entering into
the fray which would b a matter of great concern. He stated that U-FERWAS to ascertain all
details of such candidates and to inform to the Voters, not only relating to the candidates but also
of their spouses.
The Executive V.P. Dr.G.V.Rao, and Sri.B.T.Srinvasan also suggested several measures to
be taken by the R.W.As during the ensuing elections. They have suggested arranging a common
platform at all zones by our Zonal Federations, also proposed to constitute the corporators watch
wing. They have also proposed to make a representation to state election commissioner requesting
him to issue orders directing the private companies to give 3 hours permission to all its employees
to cast their votes.
Sri.Venkateshwar Rao from Kukatpally wing of U-FERWAS proposed to prepare
necessary printing material with necessary information and guidelines to the voters relating to the
GHMC elections. Sri. N. Satyanarayana of Mehdipatnam, Sri.B.Om Prakash from Tarnaka, Sri
N.Ashwin Kumar from Alwal, Sri.K.R.C.Reddy from L.B.Nagar, Maj.Shiv Kiran Khairatabad and
others addressed.
The following decisions were finally taken.:
1. To set up a ‘Corporators Watch’ Wing with two retired judges to closely watch the
activities of the elected corporators and to receive complaints against them. Such

complaints, after scrutiny, would be forwarded to the Council or to the concerned party or
to the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
2. To ascertain necessary antecedents relating to the contesting candidates and their spouses
particularly criminal acts if any and to pass on the information to the Voter (Residents).
3. To collect and put necessary information and guidelines relating to the Code of Conduct,
rules and regulations and procedures of the GHMC elections and distribute them among the
residents.
4. All RWAs to make necessary arrangements and to ensure that maximum number of voters
in all the wards cast their votes promptly.
5. A delegation of U-FERWAS to meet the heads of major political parties of City and to
present memorandum informing them about the decisions of U-FERWAS.
6. In order to be nominated from the Area Sabha and to the Ward Committee, some selected
RWA members from each Polling station and from local associations, have to prepare their
CVs and an album of photos, explaining their activities.

Tarnaka Sub-Branch of Red –Cross Society


FAPSCO in collaboration with the Red Cross Society, Hyderabad District branch has
initiated opening of sub branches of the Society in Tarnaka, Mehdipatnam and in Motinagar.
It is decided to encourage all the Senior Citizens’ Day Care Centres and Associations to open sub
branches of the Red Cross Society in their respective areas. On 30th October, 2009, Dr. Mullapudi
Harischandra Prasad flagged off the new drive for membership and action plan for 2009-10.

Mehdipatnam Sub-Branch of Red- Cross Society


On 29th October, the Mehdipatnam sub branch has celebrated its first anniversary, where
many eminent persons spoke on various activities of the Kinnera Welfare Society. All were in
praise for Mrs. K.Nagachandrika Devi for her endless efforts in running the elder’s home as well
as Mano Deepam, a centre for psychological counseling. The Mehdipatnam Red Cross sub branch
added more life members and conducted a Certificate Course in First Aid to its members in
association with the St. John’s ambulance association.

Forum for Street Children
21st Anniversary celebrations were conducted in its premises at S.P. Road, Secunderabad.
In her brief speech, Mrs.Viquar Ewari, General Secretary of the Forum explained to the members
present, the achievements of the Forum’s Children in the field of cultural activities and personality
development. The participants praised the managing committee for its efforts in running centre
with donations and support from NGOs and individual donors. Most of the participants were in
tears when the children narrated the beginnings of their abandoned childhood and later, how they
grew up to the youth and entered the colleges to study their degree courses. The booklet released
by the Forum made an appeal to the public to be partners in the progress of the Forum.
FAPSCO fully supports the good cause and requests its members to heed to the appeal.

Tarnaka Senior Citizen’s Forum Meeting


The monthly meeting of the Forum was held in Habsiguda on 20th November2009, in their
Community Hall. The meeting included in the agenda discussions on Community Doctor
Dialogue, Common service centre, Alternate legal aid system and a Day Care Centre with more
and more entertainment for the senior citizens.
Lion A. Madhusudhan Rao in his small session enlightened the participants regarding
adulteration in various food items. He explained the varieties of adulteration practices, the means
of checking them and also remedial action to take. Mr. P.Srinivasulu, Project Director from
AASARA-GHMC in his brief speech explained the members various activities of the “ Aasara” in
recent past and the future plans.
