CHECKLIST TO APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID

(for students who will be in college 2017-2018)
FAFSA Steps:
*Get a FSA ID at https://fsaid.ed.gov. This is important; you cannot proceed without one.

*Get a FSA ID for one of your parents (make sure your parent has a valid email address)
*Get your 2015 family income documents together (they should include your parents W-2 forms, budget
statements, bank statements, tax return forms, etc.)
*Fill out the FAFSA (online at www.fafsa.gov preferably as soon as you can so you dont miss your college
priority consideration financial aid deadlines. You can easily make changes to it later if necessary.)
*Submit you completed FAFSA.
*Keep a printed copy of your completed FAFSA for your records.
*Look out for your Student Aid Report (SAR) in your email or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
*Review SAR carefully; make any necessary changes online. (Please make sure to follow the steps carefully to ensure changes go through.)
*** Once you submitted your FAFSA on the confirmation page look out for an orange arrow stating this:
Optional Feature-Start your state application-Click here if you want to apply for New York statebased financial aid. This is your TAP application if you click on the link all of your information will be
transferred to the TAP application. If you missed this link then follow the steps below.

TAP Steps:
*Fill out and submit the TAP application at www.tapweb.org
*Look for a TAP Award letter in your email and review your TAP Award letter carefully.
*If you need to make changes, including the designated college, you can make changes at
www.hesc.ny.gov

CSS PROFILE Steps

Determine whether you need to file a CSS PROFILE by looking over the list of colleges online at
https://profileonline.collegeboard.org.
If you need to file a PROFILE add these three steps to your checklist:
*Register for the PROFILE at profileonline.collegeboard.org. There is a fee of $25. Additional reports are
$16. There are a limited number of fee waivers that are granted automatically based on the information entered on the profile application. The waiver will cover the application fee and the reporting fees for up to 6
colleges or scholarship programs.
*Once registered, you can immediately begin to fill out the actual PROFILE online.
*Complete the PROFILE and print a copy for your own records. (If you make changes later, you will do so
on a printed copy of your PROFILE and send directly to the colleges.)

DID YOU RECEIVE YOUR ACCEPTANCE LETTER?

Colleges will SOON begin to notify students of admission decisions. CUNY will begin notifying students as
early as February 15. Admission decisions will be sent on a rolling basis by each college to which the student
has applied and when you applied. Please be sure to BRING in your acceptance letters to the College

Office as soon as you get them. We want to know!

Your acceptance letter will most likely contain some very important information about decisions and
deadlines you need to pay close attention to.
Wait Listed?
If you've been put on the waiting list at your first-choice
school, it can't hurt to let the admissions officer know
you're still very interested. Send a letter restating your
request to attend and include any recent achievements or
high grades.
Because waiting lists are not guarantees of acceptance, you
should consider accepting admission to your second-choice
school. You'll want to be sure you're enrolled somewhere for the fall semester so send your deposit
by the deadline to be safe. But understand that your money may not be refunded if you are later
accepted at your first-choice school and decide to enroll there.

CUNY APPLICATIONS

The College Office will be scheduling appointments to assist with

the CUNY Online Application beginning Monday, January 9th, during periods 3, 4, or 5. Come by the College Office Room 306 to
schedule an appointment for a future date. If you have lost your
CUNY Online information packet. We ask all students to download a copy of the information
packet from the CUNY website: http://www.cuny.edu/admissions/undergraduate/downloads/
Freshman-Worksheet.pdf AND http://www2.cuny.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/pageassets/admissions/undergraduate/downloads/Support-Programs-Worksheet-2016.pdf
We will only assist students once they have completed the Freshman Application worksheets.
Make sure all is complete before scheduling an appointment. Without this information you will
not be able to submit it online. Also please bring in your Social Security Number or Permanent

Resident Number and date it was issued, without this information you also can not complete the
application.
