Size
D. Store materials in their original, undamaged packages and containers, inside
a well-ventilated area protected from weather, moisture, soiling, extreme
temperatures, and humidity. Damaged materials should not be used.
E. Grout and sealer that will be used shall be as recommended by manufacturer
or as per specification.
F. Different batches of delivered materials shall not be mixed and installed in
the same area to avoid color variation.
G. Obtain necessary clearances and approvals from engineers including MEP
clearance.
H. The surface to which tiles to be fixed shall be free from all defects.
I. Rendered substrate must be fully cured prior to the tilling installation.
J. Protect other work from dust generated by grinding operations. Control dust
to prevent air pollution and comply with governing environmental protection
regulations.
K. Ensure that the laying of tiles shall be as per direction and pattern on
approved shop drawings.
L. Ensure that leveling and slope of floor tiles shall be as per approved shop
drawings.
M. Drilling shall be patterned on fittings to be fitted (e.g. circular and
rectangular). Without marring visible surfaces.
N. Construction Tolerances: Limit terrazzo surfaces' variation from level to
6.4mm in 3m.
O. Provide control joint as required in project specification or drawings. Sealant
and other accessories that will be used shall be in accordance with
manufacturers recommendation and instruction.
P. Screed concrete or backfill shall be sloped to drain in accordance to the
approved shop drawings and specification.
Q. Exterior and interior corner of skirting shall be terminated neatly, mitered at
45. Adjust the angle if the corner is skewed or as per approved shop
drawings.
R. Provide final protection and maintain conditions, in a manner acceptable to
Engineer, that ensure terrazzo is without damage or deterioration at the time
of Substantial Completion.
S. Works shall not commence in rainy or dusty (sandstorm) weather.
T. Inspection request shall be submitted to the assigned engineer/inspector
prior to the commencement of tiling works and upon work completion.
VIII. Mixing of Adhesive and Tile Installation
1. Layout tile works and marked the designated levels for referencing.
Setting out shall be done by trained surveyor and approved by
engineer.
2. Layout should be designed to avoid terrazzo tile smaller than half size.

3. Arrange terrazzo tiles continuously beginning from the center line so

that symmetry will be achieved. See to it that 100% of the face
underneath the tiles is covered with mortar so that there will be no lack
of bond with substrate and it will not emit a hallow sound when tapped.
4. Spread the sand beds under floor tiles and compact it manually to
obtain uniform depth and distribution, lightly rinse with water. If backfill
is not required, wet the substrate prior to the installation of tiles.
5. Mix the mortar bedding at 1 bag of cement as to 4 bags of sand with
admixture as per specification and manufacturers recommendation.
Use potable water to create mortar paste.
6. Apply floated coat of mortar to the background and comb the surface
with recommended solid bed trowel. Apply thin even coat at the back
of tiles. Press tiles unto the surface with twisting/sliding action to give
finished bed thickness within the range recommended by
manufacturer.
7. Tamp the tile with rubber mallet to obtain required adhesion and level.
8. Used the spirit level and aluminum straight edge to level and align the
surface of laid tiles.
9. Spacing shall be in accordance to the approved shop drawing,
specification or as per manufacturers recommendation.
10. Always clean the face of tiles with foam or rag cloth gently to avoid
deviation.
11. Repeat all the process until all tiles are laid.
12. Let the adhesive hardened/cured for 2-4 days or as per
manufacturers recommendation prior to grouting.

IX. Mixing of Grout and Application

1. Application of grout will be carried out in accordance with
manufacturers recommendation.
2. In case of blocked joints, remove blockage to create key for grouting in
joints.
3. Apply the grout between the spaces of tiles using approved tools.
Forced to fill joints completely to the entire depth.
4. Let the grout settle for 10 minutes.
5. Clean the surface of tiles using foam or rag cloth.
6. Apply sealer as per manufacturers instruction.
7. Floor shall be closed from all kinds of traffic for at least 3 days or as per
manufacturers recommendation.

X. Mockups
A. Mockups sample would be made in designated areas for selection and approval of the
engineer/consultant prior to the commencement of works using correct materials and
shall be in adjacent location.
