1.0 Aim
To describe works associated with the installation of floor/wall penetration for all MEP Services.
This method of statement covers all works relating to areas having cable racks, trunkings, trays,
conduits, pipes, ducting or any MEP services passing through floor slabs and walls. Works are
carried out based on construction schedule and detailed shop drawings.
3.0 References
4.1 General:
Openings of all MEP services shall be made from temporary approved timber box
formwork prior to concrete casting slab and wall.
The dimensions of timber box shall follow accordingly to the approved shop drawing
penetration.
Timber box thickness shall not be less than 15mm and within the box should have a
timber support.
The installation of timber box shall be inspected & approved by the Engineer before
casting concrete.

Prepare materials such as measuring tape, paint marker, nails, timber box, hand tool, bar
level etc.
The outer dimension of timber boxes shall be the same dimension of opening as per
approved shop drawings. The height of timber boxes shall be higher than 100mm from
structural level.
After the formwork have been completely finished, measure and paint to mark the
position of timber box openings on the formwork.
Installation of timber boxes base on builder reference line as shown on Detail-1.
The timber boxes shall be held to the right position by using the nails driving directly to
formwork and inside the boxes.
After the installation of timber box, install additional rebar to reinforce the floor slabs
openings by builders as per Detail-1 & 2.
Cover the timber box for safety purposes.
Check the timber boxes position carefully when casting concrete to prevent any movable
position.
Timber boxes shall be removed after concrete curing been done.

The installation procedure of timber box for concrete wall opening is the same with the
installation for floor openings.
It is necessary to cover both side timber boxes before setting formwork for concrete
wall.

a. General:
The safety procedures generally have to be applied for all Engineers, Supervisors, and
Workers as stated below:
Make sure that all personal protection equipment (PPE) be provided on site before
starting of work such as helmet, safety boots, safety glasses, glove, mask etc.
Make sure that PPE must wear in the correctly way when working.
Tools and equipments shall be inspected by authorized person before carried out the
work.
Barricades and sign posts for warning shall be provided on site.
Cleaning properly after working in specific area.

Workers working on formwork for floor slab have to pay attention to the
openings/surrounding area.
Scaffolding and ladders shall be provided and be ready to use at any time in
order to prepare for all contingencies.
