Google Forms
Google Forms is an application that can be used as an assessment tool. Google Forms
allows for assessment using several question types, such as multiple choice, short answer,
or essay. It also has the capability to use check boxes and the ability to differentiate how
the quiz is displayed. The display options include linear scale, multiple choice grid or check
box grid. Google Forms allows for the assessor to aesthetically make the form or assessment
interesting and intriguing to the participants.
Once the assessment is completed, Google Forms organizes the data in a summary, by
individual, and by the questions. The summary gives insights that included the average,
median and range. The summary also provides the email and the scores associated to each
email. It provides a graph or each question which allows one to easily interpret the results.
This information showed on the webpage or had the option to be downloaded into a
Microsoft Excel worksheet, where graphs and charts can be made. From these results, an
educator can see which questions may need to be rephrased or re-evaluated.

Socrative
Socrative is a student response system that allows teachers to assess students’ knowledge
in real-time. The assessment tools are quizzes, space race (a quiz that is timed) or an exit
ticket. When creating a quiz, the teacher has the ability to use three types of questions,
such as multiple-choice, true/false, or short answer, but all three may be used on the quiz at
the same time. The settings of any assessment can be made to give an immediate response
or not. This way students will immediately know how they are doing in regards to the topic
being accessed. Students access this quiz by entering the room code of the teacher. Students
are able to do the quiz, once it is launched by the teacher. The teachers can then access
several types of reports, such as whole class excel file, an individual report (pdf) or a
question report that can be downloaded, emailed or accessed through Google Drive. From
these results, the teacher can quickly access students learning. According to (Lands, 2012),
Socrative can be used in Formative Assessment in the ways listed below,
1. True or False Questions
2. Multiple Choice Questions
3. Short Response
4. Visual Data (Bar graphs and visual short responses)
5. Exit Ticket
6. Pre-Assessment
7. Post-Assessment
8. Create Short Quizzes
9. Upload Premade Quizzes
10. Reflection
11. Collect Background Knowledge
12. Quick Check for Understanding
13. Voting on best responses
